About the role
Are you ready to become the next generation of leader for the Field Services Team? Responsible for teams on customer locations worldwide, you will be delivering target services as a managed service for our customers with up to 8 colleagues. These are technically complex engineering and flying operations often taking place in temporary conditions for durations of up to three months at a time. We are looking for responsible leaders who can manage people and customers and who are up for the challenge. In recognition, we offer a generous starting salary, holiday and other pay allowances when working away from our base. Also included are a contributory pension, share purchase scheme and a normal working week that ends on Friday lunchtime.
What will I be doing?
You will lead the team, interface to the customer and then be working on targets and flying them. This is time critical work and our customers are wanting really great results.
Working with a team of experienced professionals some of whom have completed this work for many years, you will be trained and supported to deliver.
Duties will include:
- Ensuring the successful and safe conduct of target system operations in the field on a day-to-day basis.
- Day to day management of operators while on deployment and in the factory, including the scheduling of target system maintenance work and the allocation of jobs to operators.
- Looking after team and individual welfare on detached duties and at QTS Ashford.
- Acting as an instructor for both theoretical and practical aspects of targetry for both customers and QTS operators.
- Facilitating the development of operators by identifying training needs and providing training where and when practicable.
- Ensuring that operations are conducted in accordance with contract requirements as briefed by the commercial department.
- Ensuring the completion of target records.
- Ensuring the completion of flight records and associated documentation including flight authorisation forms and accident/incident reports.
- Carrying out fault finding/repair work and technical investigation on equipment and systems in the field where technical support has been required.
- Timely submission of camp reports and debrief upon return to Ashford.
- Assisting with the preparation and execution of trials.
What do I need?
You will have experience of engineering and/or flying of aircraft / targets / UAV environment and an understanding and appreciation of the principles of flight.
You’ll also have previous experience of leading a team, be an excellent communicator and be calm and able to work under pressure.
The ability to travel and work away from home, potentially for long periods, is essential.
We also ask that you:
- have working knowledge of good engineering practises including configuration control
- have an awareness of UK export and import requirements
- are an excellent team player who is enthusiastic and committed to the role / team
- have good IT skills
- have a full UK Driving Licence
It would be desirable if you:
- have good domain knowledge of unmanned aerial targets systems including ground, target and control systems
- have an Engineering Degree, HND, HNC or relevant apprenticeship
- are IOSH Managing Safely trained
- are lifting operations/crane operator trained
- are First Aid at work trained
- are able to drive a LGV/HGV
- are Human Factors trained
