Job Purpose
The Air business within QinetiQ is involved in a wide variety of exciting projects and programmes, from innovative research, through to modifications or complex flight trials across all domains. As a member of our project controls community, you can expect to be assigned to teams to deliver projects in the UK, as well as international opportunities as we continue to grow.

We have a Senior Principle Controller vacancies based at our MOD Boscombe Down site. You will be responsible for the delivery of high quality project controls on complex projects or programmes, under the leadership of a Project or Programme Manager, or within the function.  The role’s key purpose is to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and consistency of project control across the business, and will be required to act as leader within the function with line management responsibility of up to 6 individuals.

Key Accountabilities


Supervision and leadership of the Project Controls team for which the role is responsible. The Controls function will align with Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), Programme and Business Strategies and will also be required to collaborate with all other Group and Project Management Organisation functions and services.



  • Development and maintenance of positive engagement with project and programme managers and other key delivery partners
  • Operating in an open and visible manner to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Embedding a culture in line with the QinetiQ values.
  • Delivery of the project and programmes controls outputs, to agreed standards in support of customer satisfaction, time, cost, quality, cash and sales.
  • Ensuring project controls team members operate in line with the Operating Framework & functional competency requirements.
  • Maintenance of all appropriate reporting needs in support of project and programme delivery.
  • Application of governance requirements in support of the delivery business (including lifecycle, project & independent reviews).

  • Negotiation & Conflict Management; being able to identify and address differences of objective, attitude or perception in order to produce an agreed outcome for all parties.


Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in Project Controls, operating within a Project Management Office environment or similar.
  • Competence against the agreed Project controls Competency Framework at a level of Practitioner or APMP Practitioner Certificate desirable
  • Experience of working in a matrix management organisation
  • Understanding and knowledge of P3M.
  • Experience in Stakeholder management across a Business Unit and the wider corporate business.
  • Technical/Engineering/Projects background to understand the overall needs of the Business unit


Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace or other closely related sectors
