Verification & Validation Engineer

QinetiQ Target Systems (based in Ashford, Kent) designs, manufactures and operates unmanned air/marine vehicles. As market leaders in the field of airborne and marine target drones, the Verification and Validation Engineer provides technical support for verification and validation (V&V) aspects of QTS project and product development, as well as for change and configuration activities.

The job holder should have a background in validation and verification activities, product testing and acceptance, as well as a sound knowledge of aviation and target operations.

This role will require regular overseas travel for up to 2 weeks at a time.


Key Accountabilities

•    Provide technical support for engineering design activities by monitoring the development of proofs of concept, prototypes and pre-production products, and ensuring compliance to design specifications.  
•    Provide support to ensure V&V considerations are accounted for early in the design process through engagement with engineers from the outset of projects.
•    Provide support maintaining QTS Product Hazard Logs.
•    Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of QTS’s products, systems, and methods.
•    Act as V&V engineering support for target trials.
•    Report to the V&V Manager any risks associated with the technical verification of products throughout the product life cycle.
•    Ensure a high standard of test specifications and test reports are produced throughout the V&V process.
•    Support new product designs and major product change testing to ensure alignment to industry best practice and meeting customer requirements.
•    Act as an interface between design and production engineering to assure the quality of product realisation throughout the development process.
•    Play a key role in the checking of engineering data.

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

•    Testing, evaluation and acceptance of products within ISO9001 environment
•    Able to produce inspection and testing plans and coordinate testing activities with stakeholders including design, production and field services
•    Able to produce trials plans and coordinate target trials
•    Highly organised and naturally collaborative


Experience & Qualifications

•    Tertiary qualification (degree/HND/HNC) in a technical discipline, or similar relevant experience
•    Experience in a mission critical environment
•    Breadth of knowledge of engineering disciplines (mechanical/electrical/aero)
•    Experience of working in aviation is advantageous
•    Must be competent in technical report writing and presentations using MS Office
