Junior Range Engineer - Relocation Opportunity to South Uist

About the role:

Based from the Hebrides Range, managed and operated on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, we deliver complex weapons trials and in-service firings within our extensive deep range and in shore danger areas.

Working in a world class Testing and Trials Evaluation environment, we are looking for new team members to provide engineering and system administration support to ensure the Range Trials Control and associated IT systems remain available for support to the operation of the site.

What will I be doing?:

In this hands on technical role, you will be responsible for conducting both planned and reactive IT systems maintenance in accordance with the company engineering policy. You will use real time monitoring of Range systems in support of operational activities, whilst supporting senior engineers to elicit customer requirements and the subsequent installation / configuration of communications and data distribution systems to meet these requirements.

You will gain practical experience in a variety of copper and fibre backbone cable systems and equipment installation. In addition you will have the opportunity to work on exciting new investment programs and help shape the Range technical systems for the future.

What will I need?:

This is an excellent opportunity for either a recent computer networking graduate or an individual working within IT looking for their next opportunity. In this exciting role, you will need to be able to adapt quickly to a variety of technical tasks, learn new skills as required and take ownership of a range of activities. The successful candidate will:

• Have an IT background with broad knowledge of IT systems, networks and servers (gained from studies or work based experience)
• Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
• Demonstrate strong organisational skills, able to work individually or as a team player with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain accurate and consistent records.
