The Role
As an Avionics Capability Lead, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will act as a key leader for our various engineering and project teams based at our state-of-the-art Aviation Engineering Centre (AEC). The AEC is an industry leader in aircraft modification, test and evaluation, leveraging our extensive accredited Design, Production and Flight Test, CAA Part 21 and MAA DAOS Organisations. We are seeking a talented individual to act as our Avionics Subject Matter Expert and Capability Lead, to support and further develop our highly-publicised engineering portfolios for a range of incredibly exciting projects.
Day-to-day you will:
- Be responsible for ensuring the AEC fulfils optimum capability performance
- Report to the Head of Design to create a clear plan for the future strategic roadmap, and drive continuous improvement
- Provide guidance and oversight across the AEC Project Delivery Teams to ensure standards and safe delivery of avionics, communication and aircraft electrical systems are achieved, whilst maintaining cost and schedule constraints
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with Project Management and Project Engineering functions, providing guidance to ensure safe and compliant delivery of avionic project outputs
- Form part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of Capability Leads, generating bid winning proposals through an AEC Solution Delivery Plan and successfully deliver a range of complex and novel projects within the AEC
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week at our MoD Boscombe Down site, with hybrid working available.
Essential Experience of the Avionics Capability Lead:
- In-depth knowledge of avionic systems; including communication, navigation and flight control systems
- Exceptional leadership qualities, with extensive experience operating in a senior engineering leadership role
- Substantial experience of CAA Part 21.J and MAA DOAS aviation regulations and certification processes
- Demonstrable experience as CAA Part 21.J Compliance Verification Engineer is highly desirable
- Proven leadership of avionic design engineers throughout the project lifecycle, including verification, validation, test and customer acceptance phases of aircraft modification projects
- Demonstrable professional communication skills; with the ability to challenge and table logical and convincing technical arguments in the field of avionics in formal internal, customer and CAA/MAA regulator reviews
Qualifications for the Avionics Capability Lead:
- Degree at Grade 2.1 or higher in an appropriate engineering subject coupled with commensurate experience in the field of aircraft avionic systems
- Demonstrable experience of CAA Part 21.J, route to certification and operating under Flight Test Permit to Fly basis
- Recognised as a subject matter expert in the field of avionics, aircraft electrical and communication system design with significant experience of undertaking the role of Compliance Verification Engineer
