Bid Writer

Date: 04-Jan-2023

Location: Boscombe Down, England, GB

Company: QinetiQ

We are looking for an experienced Bid Writer to join our existing team. In this role, you will support the development of winning bid responses that effectively answer the customer questions, are easily readable—and clearly articulate QinetiQ’s value proposition, win themes, and solution narrative.

You will be involved in the full bid lifecycle—engaging with the bid team as early as possible in order to achieve a strong understanding of the technical solution, bid win themes, and customer hot buttons. You will lead bid writing activities from bid kick-off to submission, in line with Bid Manager (BM) requirements, which may vary from bid to bid.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Early Engagement - Participate in capture meetings to achieve an early understanding of QinetiQ’s proposed solution, our win themes and discriminators, and our competitive advantages.
  • Content Generation - Support the development of the response structure, in line with BM requirements. Actively support (or lead) storyboard workshops and writing briefings; supporting authors in producing first draft content within required timescales (with coaching where required).
  • Content Editing - Edit author content for “one voice” and house style and—critically—readability. You will liaise closely with authors to ensure that technical meaning is not altered by your editorial changes.
  • Content Enhancement - Ensure QinetiQ’s win themes, customer benefits and competitive advantages have all carried through from the storyboards into the written response, and are clearly articulated.
  • Content Management - Support the maintenance and development of Bidding’s content management library by following the post-bid content management procedures set out in our Content Management Plan.

The Fit:

The successful candidate will have previous bid-writing experience, and be able to demonstrate exposure to multiple stages of the bidding process—including storyboarding, participating in key review meetings/final document review, content sign-off, and document production. You will have previous experience in making technical language accessible to non-technical reviewers, and be comfortable in making recommendations to senior individuals within the company, including technical subject matter experts.

Our bid writers play a key role throughout the bidding process, so the ability to build lasting and trusted relationships with internal stakeholders is essential. This is a varied and fast-paced role where no two days are the same, therefore you will be able to manage multiple priorities with a systematic and logical approach.

Why Should I Apply?

You will join the small—yet growing—bid-writing team supporting business winning at QinetiQ. Our writers are typically assigned to QinetiQ’s larger strategic captures, so there is scope to play a part in winning some exciting, high-value opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to build your own profile within our organisation, and to make the role your own by seeking out creative ways for the bid-writing team to continuously raise the bar in our delivery, and to add value in everything we do.

Furthermore, continued learning and development is at the heart of QinetiQ’s offering, so you will continue to grow in your role and benefit from a fulfilling career progression path.

Please note that all applicants must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
