The Role

As a Ground Maintenance Operative and member of the Estates Delivery discipline within UK Defence Operations, you will provide support by delivering planned or requested activities in order to effectively deliver a high quality grounds operations service.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll deliver grounds maintenance services, identifying areas for improvement, additional demand and to ensure key first and last impressions on the site are maintained.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering specialist grounds services, including attention to pest and tree hazards
  • Maintaining knowledge, awareness of grounds/land legislates, standards, technical requirements and developments
  • Ensuring correct prioritisation of work programme to satisfy business needs
  • Forming part of the on-call rota during periods of inclement weather; supporting site preparations and response to enable ongoing safe access/use of premises
  • Ensuring robust application of health, safety and environmental procedures and processes
  • Overseeing the conduct of contractors on site; monitoring the implementation and performance of tasks allocated

 

Essential experience of the Grounds Maintenance Operative: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive, drive and enthusiasm; ‘can do’ approach
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Previous experience in Grounds Maintenance and ability to thrive as part of a team and work independently where appropriate
  • Ability to organise/prioritise work
  • Manual Handling awareness and risk appreciation

 

Essential qualifications for the Grounds Maintenance Operative:

  • Full driving licence
  • Appropriate Plant LANTRA or C&G Qualification

This role is 37 hours per week based at Salisbury. Set working times are Monday-Thursday; 08:00-16:30 and Friday 08:00-16:00. Compressed working hours optional.

 

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
