Role Purpose

Within QinetiQ Canada Inc (QCI), QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) and Canadian Programs required a permanent, full-time Marketing Manager.


QTS is a world-leading provider of unmanned air, land and surface vehicle targets for live-fire training and weapon system test and evaluation. They design and develop threat-representative targets and special mission platforms at their manufacturing facilities in Ashford, Kent, UK and Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, and they support these platforms with a field service capability honed for decades on military ranges worldwide.  They have manufactured over 10,000 targets, in service in more than 40 countries, including 15 NATO customers.


Canadian Programs is focussed on growth in the Canadian Market, with primary customers of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).  Creating value-added solutions, based on proven and world-leader capabilities in Test and Evaluation, for our customers in Canada.  


The Marketing Manager will have the responsibility to develop, identify and carry out all marketing requirements. Providing strategic support to the QCI business to produce and deliver marketing and communications plans that help shape and drive business growth. This position will also be responsible for all content on the QCI website, including the QTS page(s) and update product information and capabilities on a regular basis. This position will report to the Vice President of Business Development, for personnel management and day-to-day administration, but will have an equal reporting/tasked responsibility to the QTS Business Development Director.


 Key Accountabilities

•     Develop, manage and execute marketing and communications plans

•     Provide support and advice for all internal/external communications including providing best practice on using Global Portal/QCI and QTS homepages and across both QTS businesses

•     Responsible for all proactive media relations for area, including press releases, media events and hosting interviews with trade and specialist  and social media

•     Development of marketing strategy and plans including audience understanding and proposition development based on commercial objectives that leads to generation of new business pipeline     Responsible for strategic briefing of the wider team (digital, design, research & events)

•     The sourcing of customer delivery stories that can be used both internally and externally and develop associated content (written and multimedia)

  • Work with the QQ Digital Team to deploy content through the website and digital channels
  • Ensure all content, messaging and collateral aligns to QinetiQ messaging and represents the brand in the most effective way
  • Support events - attend and assist in the planning of events, creating the messages and collateral materials
  • Maintain currency with the latest trends in marketing, sharing this with the wider team to continuously improve engagement


Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Defence marketing and communications experience
  • All round marketing communications capabilities (advertising, social media, event planning, sales tools, direct marketing and content creation)
  • Strategic planning experience (leading not just doing)
  • A high level of organisational ability and experience of working independently
  • Strong B2B experience – working in complex markets and being able to simplify key offerings
  • Ability to develop strong rapport and maintain relationships with customers/internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of complex stakeholder management
  • A good balance between strategy planning and hands on delivery
  • Creative ‘outside of the box’ thinking
  • Team player with demonstrable collaboration skills
  • Excellent communicator with outstanding writing skills
  • Ability to influence at a senior level and the confidence to have difficult conversations
  • Experience of working in communications, preferably both internal and external
  • Excellent understanding of using audience understanding and data to shape/influence/amend/optimise plans
  • Ability to multitask to prioritise work and deliver to challenging deadlines, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail


Experience & Qualifications

  • Related degree and/or equivalent working experience
  • Strong B2B marketing and communications expertise with demonstrable track record/ability to deliver
  • Experience of working with senior leaders in a strategic advisory role
  • Experience of managing external agencies, contractors, designers and content producers
  • Experience of editing and updating web content and analysing web analytics
  • Experience of deploying social media campaigns
  • Experience of testing messaging and campaign activity to improve engagement


Further Information

  • Location – Ottawa, Ontario Canada. The successful candidate will be required to travel to varied locations, including but not limited to Ashford UK, Ottawa, ON, Medicine Hat, AB, and Halifax, NS, as directed by the Canadian Programs VP of Business Development and the QTS BD Director.
