Are you a cost modelling and data analysis expert seeking an exciting Defence project? Do you enjoy managing cost research for programs in exciting industries like space, communication and simulation?


We are currently recruiting a Principal Consultant, Cost Modelling to join the senior program team of the QinetiQ Australia Advisory business, based in Canberra.


Our team has been selected by the Joint Capability Group’s Space Services, Training Areas and Simulation Branch (SSTASB) to be their Strategic Partner in the provision of Capability Management and Engineering services across the Capability Life Cycle for Satellite Communications, Positioning, Navigation and Timing, Defence Training Areas and Simulation, Health Knowledge Management, and Defence Records Digitisation.


This is a great opportunity to add value to our projects in the exciting areas of space, communications and simulation solutions to our Defence customer. As the Branch Cost Modelling Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  • Production of independent cost and schedule estimates in support of the Branch projects and programs of work for budget setting and approval purposes;
  • Analysis of data, utilising various estimating methodologies, tools and techniques;
  • Development of reports to support cost modelling estimates for Branch submission;
  • Liaison and coordination with the Branch personnel on all Cost Modelling activities;
  • Managing Cost research for the projects and programs of work within the Branch;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with customers and wider key stakeholders on Cost Modelling; and
  • Provide estimating support regarding charging rates, cost certificates and cost allocation methods


The successful applicant

To be successful in the role of Principal Consultant, Cost Modelling, you will require:

  • Sound appreciation of finance and accounting, parametric cost estimating and systems engineering;
  • Experience in the use of formal statistical cost software packages;
  • Comprehensive understanding of cost normalisation; inflation, learning, currency and exchange rates;
  • Appreciation of Defence procurement processes and DOD operating doctrine;
  • Strong numerical and statistical skills including historical trend analysis and data normalisation;
  • High level verbal and written communication skills including presentations;
  • IT literacy including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Interpersonal / presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and innovative approach to work with the ability to take on new ideas;
