Scheduling Manager

The role will lead the Scheduling function within UK Defence PMO, ensuring consistency is delivered in this area across all Projects and Programmes. Build a team of competent Schedulers and promote the work of the PMO.

Provide scheduling services to a high and consistent standard, ensure effective and efficient data management to feed consistent reporting across the Sector and at all levels.

Integrate Schedulers into Projects, Programmes and bids to achieve effective and efficient delivery in order to achieve profitable growth. The role will also be accountable for recruitment, development and deployment of all Schedulers, which will also include alignment to professional development.

This role will be responsible for the professional skills, competency and capacity within the team in order to fulfil the demand created by the project, programmes and sales within the UK Defence Sector. This includes aligning professional development to the requirements of the group Head of P3M.

The role will also have accountability for ensuring UK Defence are working with GPE in creating, maintaining and improving processes, systems and tools required by the UK Defence Sector to deliver successful Projects and Programmes.

 

Capability:  Responsible for implementing and operating the strategy for their professional capability in line with the UK Defence and PMO requirements
Capacity: Working with the Project Controls (Delivery) Lead to ensure that the Scheduling team competency and capacity meets the needs of the Sector now and in the future.
Culture: Developing and maintaining regular, open and positive lines of communication within the team, with the leadership, programme and project teams and other key delivery partners in line with QinetiQ leadership behaviours and values
Change: Define, develop and implement change as required and ensure that UK Defence are operating in line with the QQ operating model. Ensure that the Scheduling team operates effectively and efficiently with respect to all aspects of their profession.
Technical Expertise: Significant knowledge of the development and delivery of complex project schedules using proprietary planning tools, specifically PPM2016 or Primavera P6 – to enable the successful delivery of Projects and Programmes.
Customer: Develop key relationships with customers (Internal/External), to enable their profession’s capability to meet future customer and business needs.
Company Collaboration: Through partnership and communication, work with UK Defence Leaders and GPE leaders within QinetiQ to create collaborative working relationships that demonstrably drive the UK Defence capability.
Professional Development: Recognised as the expert in their profession across UK Defence, the wider QinetiQ and, where relevant the UK Defence customer base.  Build a team with the right skills and competencies to meet current and future demands in order to deliver excellent results to customers and predictable outcomes for QinetiQ.
Systems, Tools and Processes: To develop with the business appropriate systems, tools and processes to allow cost effective and efficient work practices.
Services: Provision of effective and efficient Scheduling services to the UK Defence Sector

 

  • Able to quickly recognise interventions needed to drive change and performance
  • A capable Leader across their professional community
  • Experience of developing and functionally managing others and building effective teams
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to quickly understand the broad and diverse business domains that the UK Defence Sector delivers to and supports and the implications to the development and sustainment of capability across those domains

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience working on a diverse range of projects and programme
  • Proven leadership and capability development in project organisations to meet specific objectives
  • Director level stakeholder engagement and leadership (both within and external to QinetiQ) to ensure successful delivery of complex projects and programmes
  • Degree qualified or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • MAPM or commitment to become so
