The role of the QinetiQ Senior Network Engineer is to effectively manage and develop the company’s IT Network infrastructure to ensure customer satisfaction of all services provided.  QinetiQ IT Networks manage all QinetiQ sites which have the corporate WAN, LAN and Voice services provisioned.  These are managed within several security contexts aligned to Government Data Classifications, QinetiQ divisional policy and geographies.  The Senior Network Engineer, will be responsible for the QinetiQ Data infrastructure and associated equipment, making sure the service is maintained, supported and delivered to required levels.  A Senior Network Engineer will also act as a day-to-day escalation point and mentor for other members of the team.  Senior Engineers will also own and develop project deliverables, acting as a key point of contact for the Network’s function, working in conjunction with QinetiQ IT Architecture and the Network Services Team Lead to develop technical & service roadmaps.

 

Key Accountability:

  • Support Head of IT Network Services in the delivery of IT Services to QinetiQ
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise against core systems and services that are the responsibility of the Network Team.
  • When required with IS Teams and ensure a successful transition of new technologies into operational service.
  • Oversee and lead on the Network Management Systems. Ensure these are kept updated with s/ware, configuration, devices and events actions.
  • Raise tickets, report incidents and take ownership until resolved.
  • Reviewing and acting on service desk calls and completing work assigned by the Network Services Team lead, leading other network engineers and delegating tasks to them.
  • Maintain a level of knowledge on new technologies sufficient to understand their applicability to our customer base and to implement and support them, if appropriate.
  • Take a lead role in developing team-wide knowledge in relevant new technologies
  • Ensure relevant Network documentation is full and complete and identify any shortfalls to colleagues and Line Management.
  • Ensure that the team continuously maintain configuration records for all Network Systems deployed, including records of software version of all equipment.
  • Collaborate in the development of strategies, standards and global designs for infrastructure solutions and enterprise architectures.
  • Identify and develop methods and procedures to improve security and data privacy within the current portfolio of solutions as well as the analysis and remedial work during security incidents.
  • Take a leading role in change and release management.
  • Contribute to, and maintain QinetiQ Disaster Recovery capabilities
  • Act as a principal point of escalation for the Service Desk Team on all issues associated with support calls and requests.
  • Develop own and team knowledge on the implementation of mature services including monitoring, automation, scripting and asset management tooling
  • Engineers will also
    • Develop and maintain expert knowledge in WAN, LAN & IPT
    • Develop and maintain knowledge in Security
    • Develop and maintain knowledge in Cloud
    • Develop and maintain knowledge in Wireless
  • Ensure systems have full backup and restore capability.
  • Maintain system security at all times.
  • All security vulnerabilities and updates are addressed.
  • All mandatory training is under taken.

Technical

  • Excellent experience in Cisco LAN & WAN technologies and hardware.
  • Working knowledge of Switching, Routing.
  • Working Knowledge of Networking management toolsets
  • Experience & /or understanding of Wireless, Video Conferencing, Collaboration, Security appliances.
  • An Understanding of IT Security Standards
  • Experience in various Networking technologies ISDN, Circuits, Voice, Windows Server, DHCP,TCP/IP

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • CCNA equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and practical application experience with SNMPc
  • Knowledge and practical application experience with Scrutinizer
  • Knowledge and practical application experience around IT Security Standards
  • Knowledge and experience with Patapsco
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001
  • Planning & prioritising skills
  • Service orientated customer facing skills
  • Strong system analysis experience required
  • Experience in a service delivery, best practice environment preferred
  • ITIL v4.0 Framework Certificate or equivalent experience of an ITIL Service Management Implementation.
  • Security Clearance (SC) is required for this role and must be maintained.
