Senior Systems Specialist

Role Purpose

As a member of the UK Shared Services team, provide support and expertise to the Service Management function. Delivering planned or requested activities which will depend on the requirements of the individual task in order to effectively deliver high quality services to our customers.

Including but not limited to:

  • To provide support to IT and business teams in the design, development, implementation and management of any new corporate applications or systems in their area of responsibility, including any interfaces or integrations with other systems and to ensure related elements (e.g. underlying architecture, DBs etc.) are in support and patched as appropriate
  • To monitor the performance and integrity of relevant systems
  • To lead Tier 3 service management support to tickets that are raised by the IT help-desk in response to user issues
  • To provide subject matter expertise for the lifecycle management of the systems for project and BAU delivery
  • To provide Tier 3 support to the wider business for relevant systems, and act as 3rd party Tier 4 escalation point of contact for incidents and changes.
  • To support the development of reporting, system training material and documentation of system enhancements.
  • To own and maintain relevant system configuration documentation, including tracking of changes through test and production environments, and ensure it is locatable and accessible.
  • To consult with business stakeholders and other systems specialists to configure and maintain relevant systems.
  • To provide training or coaching to others in system support role, including power/super users of the applications, and support training for end users as required.
  • To support the principal system specialists with requests for internal/external audit of processes and systems, or data analysis.
  • To hold responsibility for planning and delivery of testing for application development and enhancement, including designing and executing test scripts, and ensuring results are documented and stored.
  • To manage system data model and master data ensuring coordination with other QinetiQ systems
  • To ensure BAU operation of corporate systems in their area of responsibility, including interactions with any interfaces or integrations with other systems.
  • To ensure formal change control processes are followed and service improvements are safely and securely executed into the environment, checking for cross functional dependencies and impacts.

  6. Professional Development – To represent/share the latest wider industry best practises with colleagues and a personal commitment to professional/ technical development.

 

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Refer to core UKBS QinetiQ Competency Framework (for the minimum required Business, Personal, Leadership competencies for this role) & the relevant Technical Competency Framework per service area for any additional technical requirements for this role
  • Highly IT literate, with in depth knowledge of ERP and corporate business IT systems
  • Familiarity with SAP and other relevant corporate systems/applications
  • Apply detailed knowledge of IT/application delivery methodologies
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously

Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive (5+ years) experience of corporate, business & ERP/IT systems in their area of operational/portfolio responsibility
  • Proven track record of working with internal and external teams on deployment and development of new systems, solutions and functionality
  • A Technical Degree (Computer Science, Maths, Engineering or equivalent), and/or 5+ years relevant technical experience
  • Must hold SC Security Clearance or be suitable to obtain it
  • To have experience working with internal and external teams on deployment of new systems and functionality
  • Ability to engage with a cross-section of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
  • An ability to make recommendations in the context of wider business requirements such as efficiency, resilience and confidence.
  • Awareness and understanding of IT & Corporate systems and solutions, current trends and emerging technologies
