Job Purpose

Do you want to work on exciting, difficult problems that deliver capabilities into the heart of our National Security customers that support their on-going mission of protecting the UK?

At QinetiQ, we are investing in and growing our National Security team, particularly our presence in London. As part of this growth, we are also building a Business Consulting capability and are looking for experienced Product Consultants across a range of grades to join our team and contribute to shaping and developing the capability. We are primarily looking for people with experience to work as Consultants, Senior Consultants or Principal Consultants, but will also consider applications from people looking to enter consulting at the Associate Consultant level.

  • Experienced with agile delivery methodologies and potentially have experience of their application at scale
  • Keen to work with our offsite teams to help us better integrate a broad range of existing and new capabilities both within our business and supplier ecosystems
  • Willing to work on customer sites in London for 3-4 days a week, with your remaining time either in QinetiQ offices or remote

Key Accountabilities

  • Reconciling the customer’s vision with user requirements
  • Potentially acting on the customer’s behalf as a proxy-product owner
  • Defining Features, User Stories and Acceptance Criteria
  • Owning the product roadmap
  • Working closely with the project manager to plan and deliver (generally through a team) all the technical/engineering activities required to meet project objectives
  • Responsible for devising and delivering the technical solution using sound technical, management and leadership skills such as systems engineering management and project management
  • Engages with the customer and other collaborating organisations, including in the devising of plans, review of progress, the delivery of the resultant system, and any subsequent support activities
  • Internal and external focal point of contact for the project on all requirements and assurance
  • Ensuring that the system meets appropriate regulatory, legal, safety and other engineering requirements and standards


Key Capabilities and Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of Agile methodologies, including scaled-agile
  • Good and effective communication and inter-personal skills
  • Employs approaches including planning/monitoring/control and ‘soft skills’ (such as team building), to ensure that safe, effective and efficient processes are applied
  • Understands the operational environment and underlying domain-specific issues
  • Able to identify and manage complexity with appropriate techniques in order to reduce risk
  • Able to ensure that customer needs and expectations are addressed and/or satisfied
  • Able to identify, conceive, review, and judge the suitability of systems solutions
  • Able to support transition to operation activities
  • Able to manage a broad range of internal and external stakeholders whilst building and maintaining excellent relationships
  • Proactively anticipates potential problems and deals with barriers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels across the department, business, and externally with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders

You will be passionate about working closely with your customers and keeping the UK safe. You may have a degree that may be in a related field. You might not, but might instead demonstrate how you have trodden the path for yourself and gained the skills and experience required to be successful in this role. We would expect you to have experience in most, but not all of the key capabilities. We like our consultants to be flexible and well-rounded, so will assess each candidate on their own merit.

QinetiQ pays competitively within the industry. The salary for this position is dependent upon your experience and is relative to our current people. It is vital to us that all our people are remunerated fairly, ensuring everyone feels valued. We assess seniority relative to the existing consulting team during the interviewing process.
