The Role
As a Principal IT Engineer / Technical Lead, you will provide high calibre engineering leadership for delivering IT and Intelligence systems in order to meet business objectives and deliver growth. You will support the technical strategy using your skills and vision to positively influence the technical direction to the benefit of QinetiQ and our customers.
You will lead the technical delivery of large and complex projects and in the development of winning proposals and oversee work across multi-disciplinary technical team.
Responsibilities of the Principal IT Engineer / Technical Lead
- Lead project teams to deliver complex solutions using best practice. Success will depend on your ability to forge strong collaborative working relationships to develop great solutions for new and existing customers. Delivery will also require the ability to technically lead and integrate output delivered by third parties
- Responsible for providing technical leadership for programme, project and bidding activities
- Lead the development of the company/customer’s strategic intent in the area of IT and infrastructure
- Provide technical assurance by leading the development of appropriate technical standards that comply with statutory, regulatory, company and project specific processes and procedures.
- To understand the market requirements and future technology developments and to lead the area in the development of strategies for new capabilities and areas for business growth.
- To support the development of IT specialism in the Technical Disciplines and support resourcing decisions, including both long term and short term planning, informing competency and capacity requirements, investment priorities and critical make/buy/partner decisions.
Essential skills and experience of the Principal IT Engineer / Technical Leader
- A respected technical leader who can perform complex engineering/technical assignments developing creative, yet practical solutions to customer problems, challenging conventional or traditional methods or procedures where required.
- Demonstrable evidence of creating clear and concise direction to achieve a successful outcome. Possess the leadership skills required to engage and motivate the team to contribute to the growth and success of the business.
- A recognised expert in their field, with a broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within the areas of discipline and a record of outstanding technical contributions
- Demonstrable good commercial awareness; has an excellent knowledge of how the technical function contributes to the business, an excellent understanding of competitors and working with customers to open up new business opportunities
- Ability to shape, describe and deliver whole or parts of projects and exercise considerable discretion on a variety of complex assignments, influencing strategy (and budgets) across a number of skill groups
Qualifications for the Principal IT Engineer / Technical Leader
- A first degree in Science or Engineering, or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification, with significant on the job experience and growth of key skills, working in the domain and backed up with a tangible track record of achievement.
- A scientist/engineer/leader with a background of working on a range of projects and campaigns.
- CPD continues, aiming towards further self-development in technical, leadership and behavioural skills, actively using it to benefit the role holder and QinetiQ.
