QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target. QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.


This role will be an initial 12-24 month position, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position later. The position holder will need to be based in Canada and be willing to relocate or travel to Medicine Hat regularly.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing project assignments as defined by the project sponsor


  • Leading the planning and execution of the project through multiple project phases, often overlapping. 
  • Provide project leadership, working closely with teams to monitor and ensure the project accomplishes all goals and deliverables, on time and budget.
  • Apply rigorous control procedures to ensure project does not exceed the customer budget.
  • Engage with project team members and work towards shared project goals and deliverables.
  • Managing risks, opportunities, change and resolving conflicts and constraints (including prioritization calls) within the program and collaborating across other QinetiQ sites, as necessary.
  • Coordinating with different QTS departments to deliver the project.
  • Acts as the primary performance interface with the customer.
  • Ensuring regular forecasts (both financial and resource related) for cost, sales and delivery are maintained which reflect the up-to-date expectations for the work.
  • Ensuring the program schedule, cost model and risk register are maintained, and that effective corrective action is undertaken with respect to variances.
  • Leverage the applicable internal systems to assist with project sponsor and customer reporting requirements, ensuring governance with QinetiQ policies.
  • Operating in a safe & secure manner and ensuring that direct and indirect reports do likewise.
  • Leading by example in delivering a customer facing QinetiQ program that is in line with customer expectations and QinetiQ values.


Education/Work Experience Requirements:

  • Experience leading complex programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leading multi-disciplined teams, including those with a high technical content
  • Stakeholder management including proven success in environments with multiple direct and indirect stakeholders.
  • Strong track record of successfully resolving competing demands.
  • Experience across all stages of project lifecycle, including project mobilization and service deliver.
  • Experience in applying different techniques appropriately to meet the need of the program.
  • Experience working with multiple contractors.
  • Project Management experience, PMP designation or global equivalent preferred
  • 5-10 years’ experience in Project Management on Government, Military, or equivalent


Security Requirements:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Able to obtain a Canadian Level 2 Security clearance
  • Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check


Safety Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task in a computer-operated environment
  • Using a computer and associated peripherals
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Standing for extended periods of time in uncontrolled environments
  • Looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time


Additional potential requirements:

  • Being exposed to a variety of environmental conditions (heat, wind, rain, etc.)
  • Lift a maximum of 15 kg
  • Other duties as assigned.


This position is safety sensitive due work requirements of being on the factory floor near equipment, field deployment and testing requirements.
