We are currently looking for a Senior or Principal level Systems Engineer with Electrical/Electronics experience to join our R&D Delivery Team, based in Melbourne.  The R&D team works with internal and external research and innovation partners to progress the technology readiness level of new technologies supporting the continued development of Defence capability and enabling new products to be brought to market.

 

Reporting directly to the R&D Program Manager the Senior or Principal Systems Engineer will be required to work independently on complex technical engineering tasks but will be able to receive guidance where required. The role will require significant knowledge in systems engineering processes, requirements definition, requirements verification and general hardware design principles applied in accordance with QinetiQ and Defence policies and procedures.

 

As a Senior or Principal Systems Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

  • Lead requirements definition of complex electrical/electronics hardware engineering projects, R&D and or product development projects
  • Requirements verification planning (e.g. functional, performance and environmental)
  • Lead project scoping and technical planning activities IAW QinetiQ/customer requirements
  • Coordination of project bid/proposal creation
  • Support safety analysis and creation of safety artefacts
  • Participate in electro-mechanical hardware development activities and discussions
  • Working with suppliers of COTS and bespoke components.
  • Coordination of verification testing such as environmental testing to MIL-STDs.
  • Documentation of design justification, procedures, test reports, etc.
  • Contribute to electrical design activities and discussions.
  • With scope for individual accomplishment and coordination of more difficult assignments, deals with problems for which it is necessary to modify established guides and devise new approaches.

 

 To be successful in the role as Principal/Senior Systems Engineer, you will need to bring with you;

  • Electrical Engineering degree
  • Significant experience in an electronics/electrical hardware development environment
  • Experience of power distribution systems, portable power platforms and control systems (considered advantageous)
  • Experience with wiring design, schematics and drawings (considered advantageous)
  • Significant experience applying Systems Engineering methods per the SEBoK
  • Experience managing requirements across the full system design lifecycle using tools like DOORs or similar
  • High technical documentation writing skills
  • Strong inter personal skills and an ability to communicate with a diverse range of senior Defence stakeholders
  • Strong team working skills within a multidisciplinary environment
