Maritime Network & Comms Integration Engineer

 

Key responsibility

Supporting the technical delivery of secure end to end radio solutions in a multi-bearer, mobile environment from high level design to delivery and transition to service. 

 

Technical Responsibilities

  • Design reviews, by taking existing design documents and reading across to system requirements in order to validate the design and produce appropriate test documentation. 
  • Independently create and run test plans and schedules.  Contribute to test strategy decisions
  • Working with other parts of QinetiQ and customer or subcontractors to integrate technology into wider systems.
  • Able to ensure documentation produced is clear and concise and appropriate to the project and/or the recipient.
  • Able to identify and resolve technical issues by using own knowledge and seek others knowledge to solve problems in a timely manner.

 

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM subject with suitable experience in Communications  (or able to provide evidence of equivalent experience in industry or the Armed Forces)
  • Knowledge of systems including VLF, HF, UHF and satcom
  • Knowledge of military comms systems including VLF, Bowman, Falcon and/or Skynet5/6 or legacy Maritime comms
  • Awareness of future comms systems or future RN platforms.
  • Engineering background understanding requirements capture, integrations planning and testing.
  • Be familiar with the operation and integration of equipment in the Communications, Development & Integration Facility (CDIF).

 

Customer

  • Should have an understanding of the military and MoD environment, generally with a focus on on maritime but not limited to .  This will include a technical understanding of the systems that are deployed and the types of information being passed over the networks.
  • Deliver demonstrations and presentation on technical subject at a level appropriate to the audience.
  • Able to articulate conclusions and recommendations in a manner suitable for the varying levels of customer
  • Experience of working with MOD and potentially other Government agencies.
  • To liaise with the customer representatives unescorted.

 

Business

  • Work with PM and technical lead to deliver specific aspects of project work across the team as required.  Provide necessary resourcing information to Resource Managers. 

 

Leadership

  • Able to work collaboratively within teams to ensure own aspect of solution is integrated successfully and documented and delivered into service following established governance process.
  • Technically lead small projects and be accountable for their technical success. 
  • Able to lead one or two junior members of staff.
  • Able to propose solutions and influence senior members of staff in own discipline.
  • Stand up as Lead Integration Engineer. 

 

Personal Skills

  • Self-motivated, articulate, with good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to convey complex information to non-specialist audiences.
  • Be organised and have good time and personal management.
  • Tenacity and drive to ensure own work is successfully delivered and be accountable for their own delivery.

 

Other

  • SC Clearance and willingness to undergo further clearances.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially overseas.
