The successful candidate will join our high-performing team carrying out machining and sectioning of explosive materials, associated rigs and equipment. 
 
The Role
As a CNC Machinist, you will use a wide range of machines in specialist facilities that will provide an excellent opportunity to develop new skills and support a critical sovereign capability in test & evaluation of defence munitions.
 
Day-to-day, you will carry out an extensive range of explosive machining operations in the manufacture and development of production and trials components. You will provide expert knowledge of equipment, techniques and materials.

 

You will also:

  • Deliver the production of high-precision explosive test samples and components to meet the required specifications
  • Be technically proficient and safely operate in the set-up and running of the remotely operated CNC machine tools
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in health and safety, security, and quality
  • Participate in task review planning activities and route card generation where required
  • Carry out activities in line with the 6S method: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain and Safety; by identifying obstacles to success and taking ownership to find solutions to those problems

 

This role is full-time, 37 hours per week based fully on-site at our Fort Halstead site. However, there will be the need to travel to our MoD Shoeburyness site near Southend-on-Sea occasionally.
 
Essential experience of the CNC Machinist:

  • Proficient in programming of two more of the operating systems used in the sectioning and machining facilities
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of sectioning and machining of energetic materials
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of environmental engineering
  • Competent in reading engineering drawings / cutting plans and confident in challenging designs based on knowledge and requirements

 
Essential qualifications for the CNC Machinist:

  • You will have an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of three A levels, one of which must be a relevant engineering discipline, or a Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering
