Trials Manager

Role Purpose

An exciting opportunity to join an agile and high performing team of multi-disciplinary engineers as a Trials Manager within a United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) test facility delivering mission critical test and evaluation of defence related products.  As part of this team you will develop the necessary skills to simulate some of the most challenging environments in the world to ensure that the systems are ultimately safe and suitable for service.

 

The successful candidate will work within the planning team at the Environmental Test Centre (ETC) at MoD Shoeburyness.  This role requires pulling all the elements of the planning activities together and ensuring critical milestones are met.


Key Accountabilities

  • The Trials Manager leads the ETC solution for new programmes of work. This includes working with key stakeholders to produce the required bid documentation, to cover aspects including safety, quality, costing, risks and technical delivery.
  • Overseeing and working directly with a team of Project Engineers to create a suite of safety paperwork including, Hazardous Activity Risk Assessments, Safety Briefs, handling and transport plans.
  • Presenting to the Hazardous Activity Management (HAM) board, providing confidence to the Responsible Manager and Providing Manager that the work is safe and can be undertaken at ETC.
  • Ensure that all safety documentation has been signed off by the appropriate personnel and a trials safety certificate is fully completed and authorised before any live testing starts
  • Present the safety brief to delivery personnel and customers
  • Manage internal / external customer coming onto site
  • Authorising Trials Instructions to ensure ETC solution is in accordance with the customer requirements.
  • Providing Project Managers with regular updates throughout the programme of work.
  • Attending customer meetings either at ETC or at customer premises, providing programme updates or responses to questions asked.
  • Ensuring safety and quality procedures are implemented on allocated trials.
  • Oversee the delivery of allocated programmes to ensure delivery risks are understood and mitigated
  • Mentoring of project engineers
  • Ensure security documents are mustered monthly

 

Key Capabilities

  • Understand Customer requirements and technical solutions
  • Create detailed project plans
  • Excellent Communication and presentation skills
  • High level of IT competence
  • Good understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and 9001
  • Subject to security clearance
  • Must have drivers licence and own car
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels, both internal and external to QinetiQ, including customers, suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Committed to achievement

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering, or equivalent is desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent risk based qualification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project software
