QinetiQ Inc.'s Technology Solutions (TS) Group is looking for a highly motivated Sustaining Electrical Engineer for the fast paced, high tech field of robotics. The Staff Sustaining EE will design, develop and field innovative products on a multi-disciplinary team of innovative engineers. The team member will also be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of a product lifecycle from concept generation through final product fielding and eventual obsolescence.

Job purpose:

 

  • Perform electrical and electronics design of systems and subsystems for commercial and military robotic systems ranging from 10 pounds to 40,000 pounds to prevent product obsolescence.
  • The candidate will take part in creating test documents, leading and performing testing, and determining design specifications and requirements of electro-mechanical components as part of obsolescence and continuous improvement activities.
  • Other tasks such as participation in field testing, data collection and reporting are common. As robotics is a multidisciplinary field, the successful candidate will be required to work closely with engineers in other disciplines. Some (< 10%) travel may be required to support integration, testing, and repair activities.
  • A solid background in electrical engineering, including analog / digital / mixed-signal circuit design and cable design, is required. RF, high speed, power electronics, or HDL design experience is a plus. Demonstrated “hands-on” engineering troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are a must. 
  • The candidate will ensure continued quality of design, reproducibility, and reparability of Unmanned Systems products, product line extensions and upgrades while understanding customer needs. Keep ahead of obsolesces and component EOL, support vendor changes and qualifications to improve quality.
  • The candidate will also lead cost reduction efforts on products using DFM principals. Provide ongoing support to Manufacturing to help resolve issue on the floor and improve process, manufacturing, and testing documentation.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering plus 2-4 years’ experience (0-2 years with a MSEE).
  • Analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design
  • PCB design experience (PADS or Altium Designer)
  • Competence with basic lab instruments such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with bench-top prototyping and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Flexible, self-starter, innovative thinker, and desire to solve any problem
  • Candidates will be subject to a Background Investigation. US citizenship is required.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Prior work in the field of robotics especially with field testing robotic systems
  • Experience with bus protocols such as PCIe, CAN, SPI, RS232, and I2C
  • Power electronics design experience
  • RF design experience
  • High speed digital design experience
  • HDL development
  • Working knowledge of any one of Visual C#, C / C++
  • Working knowledge of PLM and configuration management tools (Windchill Preferred)
  • DFM/DFT Experience
