QinetiQ Inc. Technology Solutions Group is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer in the fast paced, high tech field of robotics. The Staff ME will design, develop and field innovative products on a multi-disciplinary team of cutting edge engineers. The team member will also be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of a product lifecycle from concept generation to final product fielding.

The selected candidate will participate in the mechanical designs of military and commercial robotic products. Projects will be on robotic systems ranging from 10 pounds to 50,000 pounds. Candidate should be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC Creo preferable) and have an understanding of machine design and analysis, mechanism design, and electromechanical systems. The candidate will perform as an individual contributor on projects and may lead junior engineers, create design packages, and assist in fielding and support of new products. Ideally the candidate shall also be “hands-on” with abilities supporting mechanical design and product issues related to various DoD pre-production and production programs. QinetiQ is seeking someone with strong mechanical / mechanism / electromechanical design capabilities and project subsystem level leadership experience.
 

  • Electromechanical design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies, machinery and mechanisms.
  • Perform basic structural, dynamic and thermal analysis.
  • Proficient application of materials, heat treatments, finishes, and coatings.
  • Perform basic tolerance analysis.
  • Creation of detail designs and drawings for fabrication.

To Land This Job, You Need:

  • Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Two plus years of experience with Electro-mechanical system design with a concentrated focus in mechanisms and Machine Design and Analysis.
  • Two plus years of experience with a CAD PDM system a plus. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records.
  • The candidate must be able to proactively manage the tasks associated with their assigned project duties and should be able to manage, create, and assign the tasks of 1-2 junior engineers. Ability to work within the limitations of cost and budget.
  • Hands on experience assembling, testing and troubleshooting electromechanical systems in shop environment and field, strong CAD and detailing skills, development of design documentation packages, experience in sourcing vendors of electromechanical components, and ability to create and complete test plans.
  • Strong leadership skills: initiative, independence, motivation. Think creatively, promote innovation.
  • Must have experience with relevant CAD packages. PTC Creo and Windchill highly desired.
  • Must have experience with creation of detailed drawings. Experience with geometric tolerance (ASME Y14.5) desirable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with technical & proposal writing experience. Presentation skill and ability to lead customer interaction required. The ability to write product specifications & requirement.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with systems such as: Ground robots, automotive, earthmoving equipment, or other heavy equipment.

  • Experience designing and testing safety critical electro-mechanical systems to recognized standards.
