About the role:
You will be expected to undertake mathematical modelling of underwater acoustic scattering from structures, and other mathematical modelling activities as tasked to meet customer requirements. In addition, you will help to develop and maintain the team’s acoustic modelling capability, including mathematical modelling tools and associated computing facilities.
You will require knowledge and experience of mathematical modelling techniques and the ability to apply these to physical problems to create realistic computer models. You will need to debug, modify, enhance and test existing models and to develop and code new models (ensuring that the appropriate software controls are in place).
As a committed team player, you will have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with both customers and colleagues, helping to maximise business opportunities and the output from the team, whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
What will I be doing?
- Delivering complex assignments with creative practical solutions to customer problems that challenge traditional methods
- Providing management and adaptation of mathematical modelling software
- Ability to undertake accurate measurements within a pressured environment (including configuring equipment) and analyse and report on the subsequent results and findings
- Strong measurement, analysis and reporting skills
- Participation in measurement, analysis and reporting of acoustic trials (specifically acoustic scattering (Target Echo Strength) and sonar performance measurements) and undertaking acoustic studies and other investigations
What do I need?
- A first degree in Mathematics or Physics, or an equivalent, nationally recognised, professional qualification
- Some understanding of theory associated with acoustic scattering
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, as well as evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations
- Ability to shape, describe and deliver whole or parts of projects on a variety of complex assignments
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong communication, team working and diplomacy skills to guide, influence and convince others
