Diversity & Inclusion Champions are in each of our businesses and functions, focusing on promoting inclusion through raising awareness and providing support.
Employee-led networks, including LGBTQ+ and Neurodiversity for example, support us in raising awareness, creating connections and ensuring that all aspects of diversity are considered in our decision making.
Critical to all of our people feeling included is making sure that their voice is considered in every action, interaction and change within our company; improving the overall employee experience and creating an environment where we can each achieve our potential. Listening to your views is vital to help us learn and improve what it feels like to work here and there are a number channels through which our people can contribute and provide feedback.
Two-way communication channels – including our Global Portal intranet, monthly live events through Q-Talk, and virtual communities – encourage us all to share our thoughts, feedback and experience. Global Employee Roadshows provide an opportunity every quarter to hear from our Global Leadership Team about our market strategy and important topics from across the global business.

Adaptability and Flexibility
In today’s complex environment, we understand you have different needs when it comes to balancing work and life. We believe that an adaptive working environment – based on our three global principles of working flexibly, global collaboration and knowledge sharing, and business focus, – enabled by digital technology, helps us to build an inclusive, collaborative, and customer-focused culture.
Working flexibly seeks to balance individual needs with those of our customers and colleagues around the world. Informal agreements within each team and business can include flexible start and finish times or working from another location on a non-permanent basis. Formal flexible working includes permanent changes, such as altering the number of days per week you work (e.g. part-time, job share etc.). Read more about our Adaptive Working here
Hybrid working empowers us to make decisions with our managers and teams about where we work, including working remotely, so that we can achieve the most effective outcomes for our internal and external customers, while balancing individual needs alongside those of our teams. It also support us in reducing our overall carbon footprint by cutting the amount of travel required.
Digital platforms enable flexible working, communication and collaboration. We continue to invest, adapt and learn how best to use these tools, trying to create the best experience possible.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing
The mental and physical wellbeing and safety of our employees is our number one priority. We have an established health, safety and environment programme which encourages us to look after ourselves, each other and the world around us.
Our Employee Assistance Programme provides you, and your immediate family members, with a range of health, welfare and lifestyle benefits that can help to prevent and deal with issues that might adversely impact your work performance, health and wellbeing. Some of our locations also have on-site gym and sports facilities to help our people improve and maintain their physical, and mental, health through exercise.
We’re committed to developing a strong safety culture, boosting employee and customer confidence, organisational behaviour and productivity. Safe for Life is our over-arching safety culture improvement programme aimed at driving a ‘safety first’ culture at a site level. It encourages us all, at work and at home, to remain ‘safe for life’ whilst carrying out our day-to-day activities.
When we ask our people what they most enjoy about working at QinetiQ, a common theme always shines through: “My team. The people I work with…” We encourage our employees to embrace the great relationships they have with their colleagues via a variety of social activities.
Responsible and Sustainable Business
‘How we do it’ matters as much as ‘what we do’; our values are at the heart of how we deliver a responsible and sustainable business. We know that we can contribute to our future success and provide wider value to society through focusing on the skills of our people and the next generation, supporting our customers’ sustainability agendas, our commitment to environmental stewardship and having a positive impact in the communities where we work.
We’re committed to being a good neighbour in the regions in which we operate, working closely with our local communities. Many of the sites and ranges we manage are conservation areas, so we actively promote environmental sustainability and responsibility. Our people get involved in regular beach cleans, litter picks and even helped to reintroduce a rare lizard on one of our sites!
Our volunteering programme enables our people to use their professional skills to make a positive difference in our local communities, for example STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) ambassador days in schools. We support a number of charities that are important to our people including those which help the defence community.
QinetiQ offers continued support to Military Service and Emergency Services personnel looking to leave the services by offering coaching, guidance and support. This is achieved either by our own efforts or by partnering with, and supporting, various veterans’ organisations and support groups around the world and pledging to covenants such as the Armed Forces Covenant in the UK.
In addition, we have a large number of veterans and volunteer reserves at QinetiQ who use their time to give something back to the Armed Forces.
