Cloud at QinetiQ

This discipline at QinetiQ focuses on all aspects of cloud technologies and at all levels from the creation of secure cloud infrastructure to complete end to end solutions, through design and implementation to service provision.

Successful candidates in this space, could be involved in helping to design solutions for use all across the UK business supporting both commercial and military customers.

The candidate could be:

Working alongside our architects to ensure a company's cloud strategies are implemented, working and negotiating with clients and vendors and ensuring that everyone on task delivers a secure quality product within budget.

Developing, building and implementing autonomous techniques and patterns to free up staff time and helping to deliver our cloud solutions more effectively and efficiently.

Managing the company's cloud infrastructure by developing and enforcing policies for how employees and users access cloud services.

Ensuring the integrity and availability of our cloud systems by establishing security protocols and policies, monitoring and assessing the need for technology updates.

We are looking for individuals with experience in programming languages such as Java and Python as well as experience with common cloud technologies such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.  A systematic and analytical approach to delivery is key to the role but also a sense of curiosity to keep up to date with the ever changing technologies and techniques in the IT world.

Architecture at QinetiQ

Covering all aspects of information technology architecture, this discipline at QinetiQ focuses on the end to end creation of solutions as well as the technical aspects of implementation, working with both business stakeholders to understand requirements as well as technical experts to ensure delivery.  As a business we use industry standards for architecture design and definition, such as TOGAF, and have a maturing architecture governance framework through which new solutions and designs can be assured.  We are also in the process of drawing together reusable design patterns, template architectures and standards to aid with the future design of new systems.

Successful candidates in this space, could be involved in helping to shape our global digital strategy as part of our CIO team, helping to design solutions for use across the UK business as core shared capabilities or building specific platforms to aid with customer delivery into QinetiQ’s core markets.

In addition candidates will work across a range of technologies, including high security system designs, large scale private cloud platforms, network services, cloud platforms, as well as line of business applications and solutions such as software development stacks, data analytics and high performance computing simulation & modelling.

We are actively looking for individuals with experience in enterprise, solution and technical architecture, as well as candidates who are starting out on their architecture journey and are looking to transition from my hands on technical disciplines into this space.  Experience of architecture standards such as TOGAF would be desirable but not essential, however more importantly we are looking for individuals who have a broad knowledge of the information technology domain, good stakeholder management skills, ability to elicit and elaborate requirements, as well as being able to think big picture to draw together conceptual ideas to produce workable solutions.
