About the opportunity

 

Exciting new role to lead all media communications across the Australia Sector.

 

Reporting to the Communications Director, you will be a key member of the Australia Sector’s Communications Function. You will develop high quality strategic relationships with media stakeholders, providing positive brand sentiment and strengthening QinetiQ’s reputation and awareness of who we are and what we do.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Leading proactive media relations for the Sector including strategic media engagement and crafting and implementing all media materials and activities including key messaging matrixes, press releases, speeches and thought leadership pieces.
  • Leading the relationship management of top-tier national defence and security, business and trade media
  • Overseeing media engagements including interviews with members of the Executive Leadership Team, media conferences and site visits
  • Developing and managing a senior leadership media engagement and media training plan
  • Supporting corporate issues management, including the operation of an emergency media response service
  • Leading on all crises and reactive media queries, striving for balanced media coverage and protecting QinetiQ’s reputation
  • Delivering high-level writing and editing expertise, producing written material, and preparing media briefs and releases, editorials, talking points, speeches and white papers.

 

In terms of location, the role can be based in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide or Brisbane.

 

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualified in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field
  • Experience in media relations preferably within defence industry (highly regarded)
  • Demonstrated experience in securing positive media coverage, managing key external relationships and effective management crisis communications
  • Experience working in a Company which operates across multiple countries, time zones, cultures and languages
  • Proven experience successfully managing external agencies, contractors, designers and content producers
  • Availability to travel domestically on a regular basis.

 

Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be eligible for Australian Defence security clearance.
