QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target. The effectiveness of frontline military operations is dependent upon the Armed Services having the right equipment and undergoing thorough training against realistic threats. Achieving this effectiveness requires rigorous testing and integration of military equipment with the warfighter and extensive training before deployment.
 

QTS is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and operation of advanced target systems for live-fire training exercises and weapons test and evaluation. 
 

The Role
As a Test Development Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Support Manager, you'll have a role out of the ordinary. You will define and implement and alter the way we test and ensure products meet performance specifications; using NI Labview, Teststand and test fixtures that you design.

Day-to-day, you will provide technical support to the purchasing and production team and work with the design engineering teams to provide test expertise through design reviews and design-for-manufacture discussions. You will regularly be designing Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) test fixtures and supervise their assembly, then develop ATE test programs and commission them, along with the fixtures.

You will also:

• Define the way products should be tested and implement that test strategy
• Liaise & guide Research and Development (R&D) to ensure new products are designed in a way that is optimum for testing
• Develop standalone test methods, then design and implement the necessary hardware and software solutions for these methods
• Providing training and support to the factory test supervisors
• Manage change to product testing in a live environment

Essential experience of the Test Development Engineer:

• Demonstrable experience in a test development environment and radio frequency test and measurement experience
• Working within a production and/or manufacturing environment
• Using NI LabVIEW
• Ability to read and interpret electronics schematic drawings and electronic component data sheets
• Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, including schematic capture, layout and output to manufacture
• An understanding of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) issues and solutions

Qualifications of the Test Development Engineer:

• Degree in Aeronautical, Aviation, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
