About the role


We are currently recruiting a Training Material Development Lead and Technical Author to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Engineering Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.

 

QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

 

What will I be doing?

 

Reporting to the Technical Publications Manager, you will be responsible for the preparation of a range of technical documentation in support of QTS’s product range and Lead Author in Training Material Development.

 

Duties will include:

 

  • Preparation of presentation and training material for use by the Field Services Trainers
  • Preparation of illustrated parts catalogues, maintenance and operating manuals, covering both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Generation of original graphics for use in technical publications
  • General formal documentation support to departments and projects.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of QTS products

 

Occasional international travel to support worldwide operations may be required.

 

What do I need?

 

You will have Experience in technical publications and an understanding of CAD systems (SolidWorks) and the manipulation of CAD Models for presentation into documentation (Solidworks Composer or similar)

 

We also ask that you:

 

  • have experience in training material development is essential
  • have a good knowledge of photography and videography is essential
  • have a high level of competency in the following software products:
    • FrameMaker,
    • Solidworks Composer or similar CAD manipulation package
    • Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint  is essential.
    • CorelDraw Graphics suite or equivalent
    • Adobe Acrobat Pro desirable
  • have excellent communication skills
  • are creative and pragmatic
  • are interested and willing to handle a diverse portfolio of projects and assignments
  • have strong time management skills
  • are self-driven and able to deliver
  • have structured and documented work methods
  • have the ability to present training material from user level to train the trainer level

 

It would be desirable to have the following:

 

  • Experience/Qualification in training or teaching
  • Mechanical or Electronic Engineering qualifications
  • Knowledge of CE marking regulations
