Role Purpose

The role is responsible for implementing the Commercial Services strategy which will ensure that an agile and efficient service is established, maintained and developed in order to meet the performance objectives of QinetiQ and as defined by the Head of Commercial Services.


The role is responsible for ensuring the business demand is both understood and met through leadership of the Commercial Services team, shaping the current and future competency and capacity.


Key Accountabilities

  1. Capability:  Responsible for having appropriate capability in Commercial Services and that it is fit for purpose for the short and long term requirements of the business.
  2. Capacity: Collaborating with key leaders across QinetiQ to ensure that the capacity of their team matches the demand for the service.
  3. Delivery: Lead the Commercial Services team to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of outputs to the required standards and performance levels.
  4. Culture: Develop an effective environment that facilitates vibrant and collaborative teams in line with QinetiQ leadership behaviours and values.
  5. Change: Accountable for leading people through change, ensuring a smooth transition and resulting in the successful delivery of the operating model.
  6. Subject Matter Expertise: Working as a key subject matter expert within Commercial Services, improving business delivery through continuous improvement and acting as a trusted advisor, mentor and key contributor to the business. Understands business risk appetite and responds accordingly.
  7. Company Collaboration: Through partnership and communication, work across business and functional boundaries within QinetiQ to create collaborative working relationships.
  8. Personal and Professional Development: Demonstrable self-progression against professional competencies. Driving a culture of continuous professional development within their team.
  9. Leadership:  Responsible for the Leadership of their team in accordance with the QinetiQ performance, values and behavioural expectations.
  10. External focus: Develop a network of peers outside of QinetiQ who are performing similar roles in order to understand best practice, and drive the continuous improvement culture.
  11. Performance: Develop performance measures that drive performance improvement in outputs delivered by the team and the input quality the team receives.
  12. Training & Education: Drive performance through educating and training internal customers and functional stakeholders.
  13. Integration: Seek to integrate Commercial Services process into the business processes, ensuring seamless interaction with the Opportunity to Contract and Order to Cash processes.
  14. Core Service Development: Aspiring to support our corporate vision of being the chosen partner and the Business Services vision of making it easy to do business with QinetiQ; develop the following core service offerings:
    • Timely closure of Cat D (low value / risk) commercial contracts
    • Optimisation of the commercial contract award process
    • Delivery and simplification of Contract Changes
    • Identification and support to the bidding of publicly advertised contract opportunities (e.g. FATS)
    • Develop and maintain a suite of standard Commercial (commercial, financial legal, procurement) documents for submission as part of PQQs and RFPs
    • Contract manage contracts in delivery in accordance with Group policies

  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Effective management of potentially conflicting priorities from senior stakeholders


Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience working in their domain, with a significant leadership background
  • Leadership and capability development of large teams to meet specific objectives
  • Senior stakeholder engagement and leadership to ensure successful  delivery of services and projects
  • Commercial process experience and demonstrable commercial acumen.
