QinetiQ is currently recruiting a Deputy Grounds Operations Manager within one of their main MOD sites based at Boscombe Down (BCE), in Salisbury. This is an amazing opportunity for a varied long-standing career with a leading global defence organisation. The Deputy Grounds Operation Manager will assist in the day-to-day scheduling and maintenance of the logistics of all operations on-site.


You’ll be working closely with the Ground Operations Lead to deliver strength in relationships and engage with various stakeholders across the business. You’ll be involved in all aspects of platforms monitoring and organising aircrafts within the aviation area of the business.



The MOD site at Boscombe Down provides various aerospace and aviation test and evaluation capabilities to various clients. It hosts two runways, including the longest military runway in the UK. Its’ air ground-based facilities include an environmental test facility, hypobaric chamber, radio frequency environment generator, night vision test facility and avionic rigs. It is also home to the Empire Test Pilot School.


What do I need?


You’ll need experience in some of the following areas would be desirable, but not essential.


  • Relevant Qualifications or demonstrable experience in this area of work and of each of the standards e.g. a degree in a related field such as aviation/engineering
  • There is an opportunity for training and development with the correct candidate having an excellent work ethic, fantastic attitude to learning and
  • The management of time and prioritisation of activities to manage workload and pressure effectively
  • Ability to plan based on need and in line with site strategy
  • Understanding of operations, avionics and associated risks with site.
  • Experience and/or certification within a relevant area i.e. aviation systems – civil aviation would be highly desirable.
  • Experience of managing a team of professionals


What will I be doing?


Using your skills and experience you will be responsible for providing operations organisation for Rotary and Fixed Wing projects on-site in line with customer requirements.


You will be responsible for:


  • Day to day monitoring and implementing operational safety notices;
  • Day to day management and control of purchasing/processing of PO's via Ariba as directed by GOM
  • Day to day management of various operations including the scheduling, organisation of maintenance for rotary and wing-platforms and a range of operations across site.
  • Day to day integration of QinetiQ’s manned civil aviation operations with the Aerodrome Emergency Response Plan
  • Day to day management of flight planning/flight documentation and operations processes
