Flight Dynamics & Performance Instructor

ETPS is currently recruiting Flight Dynamics & Performance Instructors – to deliver academic instruction on all aspects of flight testing including general theory, aircraft performance and handling and systems.

You will be required to instruct to students from a wide range of backgrounds on both the traditional graduate courses and a continuously developing range of short courses. 

 

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team developing courses and instructing students using modern learning management systems and modern synthetic ground facilities. Your instruction will be backed-up by an ability to put your instruction into context using real-world examples based on your academic and flight-test experience.

 

The success of the role will be in delivering trained flight testers who are able to test aircraft in a safe efficient and effective manner to test agencies both in the UK and abroad.

 

ETPS is based at the MOD Boscombe Down, the home of UK MoD flight testing located in Wiltshire in the south of England.

What training and experience do I need?

 

You’ll need the following:

 

  • Aeronautical, Engineering or Science degree.

  • Completed at least 5 years post graduate experience in either the study, teaching or application of Aerospace Engineering.

 

What further training and experience would be desirable?

 

Experience in at least one of the following fields:

  • Instructional experience up to post-graduate level in aerospace engineering.

  • Experience developing or evaluating high order fly by wire aircraft control systems.

  • Experience undertaking fast jet test and evaluation.

  • Experience undertaking heavy aircraft test and evaluation.

  • Experience undertaking rotary wing test and evaluation.

  • Experience undertaking integrated avionics evaluation.

  • Experience undertaking weapons carriage, jettison and release testing.

 

Additionally the following would be beneficial:

  • Experience of using synthetics and simulation in flight test programmes.

  • Hold a teaching/instructional qualification.

  • Experience of the UK MoD’s Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).

  • Graduated from one of the 4 MoD-recognised Test Pilot Schools (ETPS, USNTPS, USAFTPS or EPNER).

  • At least 5 years’ experience within a practical flight test environment.

  • Be a Chartered Engineer.

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.

  • Skilled with using typical software used for the analysis of data in the flight test environment and with the MS Office software suite.

  • Experienced user of MATLAB and Simulink.
