The Role
As a Survival Equipment Technician, you’ll have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will carry out the maintenance, modification, assembly, repair and rectification of faults on all items of Airborne Life Support Equipment. In addition, individuals are to ensure that other related tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with all relevant and applicable regulatory and QinetiQ procedures.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll carry out assigned tasks as directed by the Supervisor, Delivery Manager or Team Leader. The Survival Equipment Technician will ensure they have the authority from the supervisor prior to progression to the next stage and that the all relevant maintenance and associated documentation accurately reflects the physical state of the equipment by the end of each working day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining all survival equipment; carrying out a range of tasks to high-standards through a planned schedule of work
  • Completing a range of compliance and health and safety checks using tool control procedures
  • Getting involved with a range of hands-on maintenance tasks for various unique equipment such as; aircrew protective clothing, helmets, electrical headsets, oxygen masks and personal survival packs
     

Essential experience of the Survival Equipment Technician:

  • A strong understanding and relevant knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Proven experience of understanding Health, Safety & Environmental regulations

 

Essential qualifications for the Survival Equipment Technician:

  • Survival Equipment training (NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Survival Equipment Maintenance (1789-31) or equivalent;
    • OR similar level of relevant experience including an apprenticeship covering survival equipment maintenance procedures;
    • OR qualification in a recognised and relevant engineering subject (for example; automotive, aerospace, aircraft, mechanical or another technical engineering subject)

This role is 37 hours per week based at MOD Boscombe Down. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected – both nationally and overseas.

 

MOD Boscombe Down is a unique operational site featuring the longest military runway in the UK. Primarily focusing on providing testing, evaluation and support services for aviation and aerospace systems. Renowned for its extensive flight testing capabilities the site plays a vital role in the UK’s aviation defence contributing to the development, testing and airworthiness of military aircraft enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
