As part of the Australia Sector Commercial & Supply Chain Function, we are now looking for an experienced Strategic Commercial Manager (SCM) to support our Threat Representation Business Unit (BU) team.
As a member of the Australia Sector Commercial & Supply Chain Function leadership, the Strategic Commercial Manager (SCM) role is responsible for ensuring best in class commercial services and support to the Threat Representation BU for both growth opportunities and contract delivery. The Threat Representation BU consists of QinetiQ businesses located in Australia, Germany, Canada and Ashford UK, with flexibility to support other BUs and strategic captures within the Australia Sector as required.
The SCM role will work collaboratively with Threat Representation BU and other Sector and functional team members to ensure that the Threat Representation BU can achieve sound business outcomes in its contractual arrangements while maximising financial/operational performance and ensuring compliance. The role will provide Commercial leadership and oversight, ensuring appropriately qualified commercial resources are allocated to work with multi-disciplined Integrated Capture/Delivery Teams as required in accordance with approved strategies and processes.
The SCM will be accountable for providing a capability delivering best in class commercial services for the Threat Representation BU portfolio by:
- Designing and implementing a commercial engagement strategy for the Threat Representation BU portfolio which interacts with the business strategy. This includes a development plan for; people, processes and tools within the Commercial function as related to the Threat Representation BU portfolio.
- Work in close collaboration with other BU and functional leaders to identify and qualify new Business Winning opportunities and ensuring the management of commercial activities related to strategic or tactical opportunities, including providing oversight of the Supply Chain, Pricing and Trade Compliance aspects.
- Ensuring the development of innovative commercial models to achieve highly successful business winning outcomes in commercial arrangements for the Threat Representation BU portfolio while maximising financial/operational performance and adopting sound risk management
- Leading in shaping of commercial strategy; being capable of influencing up to executive committee level, and where necessary, conducting valuable and complex negotiations for mutual benefit.
- Leading Commercial governance / assurance on proposals and contracts which may be non-standard, of medium to high complexity.
To be successful in the role you will need to bring with you:
- Significant experience working in a commercial contracting environment, ideally with experience in both the pre- and post-contract award stages and working within the Defence and/or commercial aviation sectors
- Degree in a Business or Law discipline (or comparable work experience).
- A successful track record in analysing, developing and negotiating contracts of medium to high risk/complexity, including to evolve commercial strategies through the business winning process.
- Commercial acumen coupled with an acute ability for risk mitigation.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate a broad network of relationships with key internal and external constituents.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, able to engage and influence team and external partners.
- Proven ability to be a thought leader, who is able to inspire and implement new ways of working, creating an open environment in which challenge and change are welcome.
Candidates MUST hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Baseline).
In terms of location we are open to considering candidates based in Nowra or in Canberra.
