The Role
As a Senior Gun and Ammunition Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that weapon systems entering service are safe, suitable, and supported by robust technical evidence, directly contributing to the successful delivery of complex defence and maritime capabilities.
Day-to-day, you'll support the qualification, evaluation and certification of weapon systems across maritime projects. You will work closely with customers, industry partners and technical specialists to ensure weapon systems meet regulatory, safety and performance requirements.
This includes reviewing technical evidence, supporting safety cases, advising customers on weapon engineering matters, and managing interfaces between suppliers and stakeholders throughout the qualification process.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the qualification and certification of naval gun systems and associated ammunition
- Reviewing and assessing technical evidence to support weapon system safety cases and acceptance into service
- Acting as the interface between customers and industry partners to ensure requirements are understood and delivered
- Providing technical advice and weapon engineering expertise across programmes and projects
- Contributing to technical reviews, risk management activities and assurance processes
- Supporting the development of technical capability through collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team
Essential experience of the Senior Gun and Ammunition Engineer:
- Experience working within OME (Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives) or WOME environments
- Strong understanding of weapon system qualification, certification, safety assurance and assessment activities
- Experience working with DOSR regulatory requirements and associated processes
- Experience supporting or producing OSRP submissions and weapon system safety cases
- Knowledge of weapon systems, ammunition, ordnance engineering or explosives safety
- Experience engaging with customers, technical authorities and industry partners
Essential qualifications for the Senior Gun and Ammunition Engineer:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Weapons Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics or a related discipline
- Alternatively, significant relevant experience within weapon systems, ammunition, OME/WOME or defence engineering environments

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Bristol site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
