Automation Architect Technical Lead

Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Group Lead, Automation Services, the Automation Architect will be responsible for leading a team of engineers who develop automation. This will support the transformation towards fully automated service catalog item deployments as part of a wider move to cloud technologies. As an automation architect you will work with the leadership and stakeholders throughout the QinetiQ organisation to design and devlop approaches to automating business process. Workload will be a mix of project support, continual process improvement and platform maintenance.
Key Accountabilities:
- The senior technical expert for projects that require automation support or changes
- Accountable for advisory and implementation expertise for all automation implementations across QinetiQ.
- Accountable for automation solution design and architecture
- Delivering the solutions and architecture for complex automation that traverses multiple networks, security classifications and platforms across the QQ estate
- Design, review and approve low and high level design (LLD & HLD) solutions and supporting artefacts
- Accountable for defining functional and non-functional requirements for automation across the project portfolio.
- Responsible for the prioritisation and scheduling of work for the automation engineers
- Accountable for automation design, testing, release and implementation processes
- Responsible for Service Request automation implementation by working with the ITSM Technical Lead.
- Accountable for automation product maintenance and patching, including supplier and vendor management
- Accountable for the automation product ownership and roadmap
- Accountable for incidents and problems raised against automation tool/services across our live estate
- Accountable for production and maintenance of operational activities and documentation
- Accountable for production and maintenance of user training materials
- Working with the relevant business functions to ensure automation of common requestable items
Key Capabilities/Knowledge & Experience:
- Solid delivery experience with automation projects, including with Robotic Process Automation, Business Process Management, Service Management Automation (SMA) and Artificial Intelligence solutions
- Managed stakeholders using clear communications and formed strong client relationships
- Knowledge and understanding of how Automation technologies are driving change
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies
- Worked independently and managed multiple task assignments
- Worked within an agile delivery environment; experience/certification in delivering change initiatives in an agile way is a plus
- Delivery managed junior resources both on a project and day-to-day basis, including quality assurance
- Worked effectively within an inclusive team and actively supported the development of individuals and teams, both formally and informally
- Direct hands on experience of automation tools & technologies:
- SMA
- RPA
- AI
- JSON
- Powershell / Python etc
- Direct experience of product automation and integration
- Understanding of all enabling functions (HR& FM etc) IT systems complexitites so that this knowledge can be used to support itegration with their functional solutions.
- Experience in other Service Management toolsets (e.g. Cherwell)
- Experience in discovery tools (SCCM)
- Able to analyse technical and non-technical requirements to define solutions.

- Experience of software development lifecycles and methodologies.
- Managing automation services to deliver capacity, performance and availability to defined SLAs.
- Ability to communicate in an open, professional and effective manner both written and verbal

- Strong team player with the ability to lead or maintain high team morale.
- Ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure.

- Willingness and ability to challenge stakeholders to better understand their needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelours Degree or equivalent
- ITIL Foundation V4 (Preferred)
