Role Purpose

The Group Director Marketing is part of the Business Development Function, providing overall direction, leadership and delivery of QinetiQ’s marketing across the Group.

The Group Director Marketing leads a team to develop and manage Group marketing strategies to advance QinetiQ’s reputation as a global defence and security leader, working closely with Strategic Engagement, Communications and Investor Relations teams to ensure alignment of QinetiQ marketing with our company goals.

Due to the geographical spread of QinetiQ, this position will involve US internal travel and international travel, particularly to the UK and Australia. Travel to the UK for one week a month is expected.

Applications are encouraged from all parts of the Group with relocation expenses considered.

Key Accountabilities

•Develop and manage Group marketing strategy to advance QinetiQ’s reputation as a global defence and security leader

•Lead Group–level marketing working closely with the QinetiQ Leadership Team and provide functional guidance and close support to marketing professionals embedded within the operating Sectors

•Lead the Marketing team, within the Business Development function, and be the lead for global marketing within QinetiQ’s Functional Councils

•Provide brand defining thought leadership and insight-led campaigns that curate brand awareness and drive leads aligned to our Integrated Strategic Business Plans.

•Build long-term marketing programs, working closely with the Strategic Engagement, Communications and Investor Relations teams to ensure alignment of Marketing team output with company goals

•Management of the Group Marketing budget and accountability for Return On Investment

•Manage and develop Group-wide external communications and marketing channels (working in tandem with the Communications team), specifically including the company website (and associated content) and trade events

•Manage and enhance QinetiQ’s marketing reach through a multi-channel approach specifically building on growth in digital media and leveraging exposure using renowned defence and security industry forums, e.g. AUSA, DSEi.

•Develop strategies to cohere and shape marketing across the Group and evolve efficient and effective policies, procedures, instructions and templates to ensure a consistent Group-wide marketing approach and outputs

 

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

•Demonstrable experience leading a marketing function within a global organisation

•Track record of leading integrated marketing strategies and plans in support of global and national sector / business priorities

•Experience in reputation management and knowledge of how a strategic marketing function supports delivery of wider organisational goals

•Understanding of QinetiQ’s operating environment in the defence and security sector

•Excellent stakeholder management

•Excellent written and verbal marketing skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and high profile external customers and ministerial offices

•Collaborative style, utilising negotiation and coaching skills to resolve issues, influence attitudes and opinions, gaining agreement to plans and ideas

•Creative ‘outside of the box’ thinking

•Excellent understanding of using audience understanding and data to shape / influence / amend / optimise plans

•Ability to multitask to prioritise work and deliver to challenging deadlines, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail

 

 

Experience & Qualifications

•Strong B2B/B2G marketing leadership expertise with demonstrable track record/ability to deliver and experience of working within a publically listed company

•Working with a global leadership team, demonstrating excellent stakeholder management skills at C-Suite level through to the wider employee base

•Experience of working with ambiguity and having to think ahead and respond accordingly

•Experience of working with high profile customers and external stakeholders in a competitive global market, developing innovative approaches to leverage marketing channels

•Excellent interpersonal and engagement skills are essential to be effective in this role

•Experience within a global multi-site / multi-offering business environment with the complexities of national and market-specific offerings

•Degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field
