IT Platform Engineer
The role of the IT Platform Engineer within Delivery Services is primarily responsible for planning, implementing and transitioning to operational service, improvements to on premise and cloud based domain and server technologies with a focus on Microsoft and Linux based solutions. Delivery is in collaboration with the IT Services Architecture and Projects teams. Occasionally engineers will be required to assist operational teams in incident and problem management across the same technical space.

 

Key Accountability:

  • Support the Group Lead for Tier 3 Delivery Services in the delivery of IT Platform services to QinetiQ
  • Support Operational support teams to ensure successful transition of new technologies into operational service.
  • Collaborate with Operational support teams to develop solutions and services aligned to QinetiQ’s strategies and requirements.
  • Maintain a level of knowledge on new technologies sufficient to understand their applicability to our customer base and to implement and support them, if appropriate.
  • Ensure that Platforms documentation is maintained and configuration records for all Platforms Systems deployed is up to date.
  • Administration, Monitoring and optimization of corporately managed Active Directories and associated domain services including system backup and DR policies and procedures
  • Identify and develop methods and procedures to improve security and data privacy within the current portfolio of solutions as well as the analysis and remedial work during security incidents.
  • Develop, plan and assist in the deployment of new technologies and enhancements to existing systems
  • Contribute to, and maintain QinetiQ Disaster Recovery capabilities
  • Develop knowledge on the implementation of mature services including monitoring, automation, scripting and asset management tooling
  • Ensure solutions implemented meet all functional requirements.
  • Maintain system security at all times.
  • Ensure all security vulnerabilities and updates are highlighted to operational teams.
  • Comply with configuration control requirements
  • Ensure all mandatory training is under taken.

Technical

  • Extensive knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO and other domain service functions
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012/2016/2019
  • Excellent knowledge of VMWare vSphere administration
  • Experience in Cloud based platforms, Azure, AWS etc.
  • Experience in administering Linux Operating Systems including CentOS and Redhat
  • A clear understanding of IT Security Standards in an enterprise environment
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise level storage solutions 

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • MCSE, MCP, MCSA or equivalent experience
  • VCP certification or equivalent experience
  • RHCE or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001
  • ITIL v3.0 Framework Certificate or equivalent experience of an ITIL Service Management Implementation
  • Experience in backup technologies desirable
  • Strong system analysis experience required
  • Experience in a service delivery, best practice environment preferred
