Role Purpose:

The Human Performance team is looking for a Physiology or Biomedical Science related graduate to join them. This individual will contribute to a broad range of research projects to help understand hazards faced by military personnel in the air, land and sea domains, and to identify and assess solutions to maximise personnel performance and ensure safety. Projects will be primarily in the air domain and will include assessment of physiological responses in this environment, for example high altitude (in aircraft), sustained acceleration (in fast jets) and hot and cold environmental conditions (in aircraft and during survival situations) etc. Most of this work is undertaken for defence and security customers.

The role requires individuals to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to answer customer questions by undertaking research, test and evaluation of equipment, and analysis of available data to deliver evidence-based recommendations and advice.

The successful applicant will be required to help design, run, analyse and report trials, including volunteer participant trials. Reporting will be required through both documentation and presentation.

- Good written skills and ability to tailor information to meet the needs of different audiences (e.g. colleagues and customers).
- Awareness of health & safety issues in research environments and a willingness to raise any safety concerns with team members or relevant individuals.
- Awareness of research ethics and the importance of ethical reviews.
Academic requirements:
You will need to have obtained, or are about to obtain, a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed below:

Sports Science

Biomedical Science
Additional skills and experience:
It would be desirable (but not essential) that you have skills, qualifications (including degree modules), or experience in one or more of the following areas:

Human experimental design

Physiological data collection

Statistics

Coding applied to data analysis

Anthropometry
-
Human Factors
Additionally, you should have an enquiring mind and be willing to learn at pace.
You should hold a driving licence as trials can take place at a number of UK locations (generally the trial team travels together in a hire car, with individuals sharing the driving).
