The Patent Attorney will manage our diverse IP portfolio and to protect new IP created by the business. QinetiQ has technical expertise and knowledge in technologies predominantly used in the defence, aerospace and security markets, both in the UK and internationally. Part of QinetiQ's business model is the creation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property in its area of technical expertise. This role will involve managing prosecution of patent families in various territories, and supporting QinetiQ's strategy for the creation, protection and exploitation of its intellectual property.




  • The Patent Attorney will be reviewing invention disclosure forms originating from inventors in the business and drafting patent applications when appropriate.
  • You will be responsible for the provision of cost effective and high-quality patent prosecution services across QinetiQ's businesses.
  • The Patent Attorney will be liaising with inventors and managers in business groups to help inform, shape and support the IP strategies for the businesses supported.
  • You will be providing advice on aspects of IP due diligence, including freedom to operate and patent validity.
  • As Patent Attorney, you will be advising and supporting legal and commercial colleagues on licensing and assignment matters.




You must be a qualified UK and / or European patent attorney; or a near-qualified UK and / or European attorney, who has the experience to be able to carry out the Key Accountabilities above.


You must have experience and a strong technical background in areas such as mechanical, electro-mechanical or physics technologies.
