  The HGMS Phase 3a Estates project is part of a multi-phase programme and is responsible for the design and build of appropriate infrastructure changes to the Applecross estate. These estate changes will house the hardware necessary to operate the HGMS as part of an improved UK underway noise ranging solution, satisfying the interfaces identified by the DoD Interface Requirements Specification (IRS) and subsequent Interface Design Descriptions (IDD) and existing BUTEC systems. 


The Role
As a Programme Manager you will be responsible for the effective project management of multiple suppliers with whom you will work with to ensure the infrastructure changes are delivered within scope of the requirements, and crucially, to time and cost, to ensure the ranges are capable, available and safe. You will have regular engagement with the MOD DE&S project team and at programme level with QinetiQ.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a talented and dedicated team focusing on the build-up of critical defence infrastructure. Due to the nature of the programme, this project provides substantial challenges and will be excellent opportunity to build upon, and extend, existing leadership skills to further extend career opportunities within QinetiQ.  

 

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Deliver high value and complex projects (c £5m)
  • Deliver project outputs, to agreed baseline (customer satisfaction, time, cost, quality, cash and sales)
  • Ensure project members operate in line with the Operating Framework functional competency management requirements; and have appropriate personal objectives recorded in the QinetiQ performance management system 
  • Maintain forecasts (both financial and resource demand signal) for sales and delivery which reflects the up-to-date expectations for the work
  • Apply governance requirements (including lifecycle, project & independent reviews as appropriate) for foundation sales and delivery work
  • Report progress on all accountabilities to programme / portfolio manager (or their delegate)

 

This role is full-time, 37 hours per week where you will work on a hybrid basis, you will be working on site three days per week and the rest from home. There is also expectation to travel to Scotland once a month for a three – five day visit. 
 
Experience of the Programme Manager:

  • Demonstrable experience leading a business, projects, programmes, portfolios or P3 function and successfully delivering complex projects
  • Experience delivering defence, engineering and/or IT projects
  • Strong Stakeholder Management: identifying, planning and implementing actions to positively engage parties with an interest in, or influence over, the project outputs
  • Ability to manage multiple external supplier(s)
  • Experience in Defence, Aerospace or other closely related sectors

 
Qualifications of the Programme Manager:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in appropriate discipline 
  • Hold a recognised PM qualification (APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) or Prince2
