QinetiQ is seeking to recruit a senior scientist with experience in electromagnetic materials and applications. 

 

Candidates for the role will have won and technically led several large, successful and multidisciplinary projects related to electromagnetic materials in the RF to mm-wave band of the electromagnetic spectrum.  Fields of interest to AS&P include materials applications in novel antenna systems, radar signature control and surface transmission lines. 

 

Candidates need to have significant expertise in the EM theory of materials and some knowledge of materials design and manufacture processes.  They also need to demonstrate a significant track-record in leading small-to-medium sized teams.  Academic requirements for the role are a good degree and PhD in a related subject; however, candidates without a PhD but who have an excellent track-record in the areas described above will also be considered.

 

The successful applicant will work with a team that spans a broad range of capabilities.  These include theoretical physicists with deep expertise in the fundamental behaviour of EM fields and waves in complex media, to materials scientists who, e.g. have developed the materials technology integrated into the world’s first stealthy wind park in southern France.  You will also have use of the QinetiQ/Dstl RF STAAR measurement Facility, which has wide ranging material characterisation capabilities from DC to 100GHz including several that are UK-unique.

 

The role will suit a senior academic or a senior scientist established in UK industry.  The role is based in Farnborough, Hampshire; however, there may be opportunities to be based elsewhere in the UK for a suitable candidate.
