The Role
As an Associate Mission Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in developing, modelling, and integrating mission systems that improve the operational effectiveness and performance of UK defence platforms.


Day-to-day, you’ll work across the sensor-to-effect chain, contributing to digital modelling, algorithm development, data fusion, software development, and operational analysis. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions, including AI and machine learning applications for next-generation mission systems.


Your responsibilities will include:
•    Developing and enhancing digital models and simulations of mission systems
•    Contributing to software development and coding in MATLAB, Python, or C++
•    Supporting data fusion and algorithm development for defence applications
•    Assisting with test, evaluation, and integration of mission systems
•    Working in a multi-disciplinary team on mission planning and operational analysis
•    Exploring AI and machine learning techniques to inform next-generation system design

 

Essential experience of the Associate Mission Systems Engineer:
•    Experience in modelling, simulation, or systems engineering
•    Proficiency in coding in one or more major programming languages (MATLAB, Python, C++, C, C#)
•    Experience with digital modelling and/or digital twins
•    Knowledge of algorithms and their application in mission systems
•    Understanding of sensor systems, RF, and data fusion
•    Enthusiasm to grow, mentor others, and work collaboratively within a team


Essential qualifications for the Associate Mission Systems Engineer:
•    STEM degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering
•    Experience in modelling, coding, and algorithm development in an operational or defence context

This role is full-time, permanent, based at our Alpha Court site in Lincoln, Hybrid working patterns are available. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
