Job Title:           Naimuri - Software Engineer

Job Location:    London

Job Type:          Permanent, Fulltime

Job ID:              SF18743

We can offer you the chance to help make the UK a safer place through innovation, working in partnership with government and law enforcement organisations on some of the most challenging data and technology problems out there.

We strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. We are committed to building an inclusive, safe and supportive environment that allows everyone to do their best work. We are happy to support any accessibility or neurodiversity requirements that you may need during the recruitment process.

About us:

We’ve been around for about ten years and grown from being a little-known tech start-up to creating our own community at the heart of the thriving and diverse tech and digital ecosystem of Greater Manchester.  In the last couple of years, we have expanded our footprint by creating and growing a London base also.

Our name Naimuri is Japanese and simply means…

‘nai’ meaning ‘not’
‘muri’ meaning ‘overburden’

These principles apply to every aspect of an organisation from technology, process and infrastructure, through to people, culture and leadership. This means that we empower our teams to do what they think is the right thing, giving them the skills and confidence to explore new ways of working, and to create a bias-free environment, where all our people feel comfortable collaborating to deliver the finest ideas and solutions in an agile environment.

Our business is focused on 4 cornerstones, which shape and underpin the way in which we go about work and treat each other. These are: Delivery, Empowerment, Perpetual Edge and Wellbeing.

People and culture are at the heart of Naimuri, so that collectively, we can realise our mission of ‘making the UK a safer place to be’.

About the role:

As part of our London based software delivery team you will be working on applications and systems used by one of our largest customers.  This may involve upgrading or re-platforming an existing application, developing a new one from scratch, or working to create a solution that will become the backbone of the customer’s software for years to come.  This may involve a range of activities, including:

  • Designing, implementing, integrating, documenting, and maintaining software solutions.
  • Working with Product Owners and End Users, delivering incremental value using Agile ways of working.
  • Working in a DevOps way to help manage and maintain multiple environments using a bespoke platform (based around GitLab and Kubernetes).
  • Building and adding to automated delivery pipelines (using GitLab CI and Flux CD).
  • Taking accountability for quality and security as a team, including pair programming and participating in code reviews.
  • The opportunity to work from the customer’s London offices, working closely with their internal teams.

You will develop new components, fix bugs, learn new ways of doing things and we will also learn from you. You’ll have the freedom and autonomy to do your best work, with plenty of encouragement along the way.  We will also support you in your career growth, and provide opportunities for training, development and mentorship.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with strong inter-personal skills, and experience of developing software solutions following Agile ways of working.

You should have experience of:

  • Full stack development, but with a strong backend focus
  • Developing restful APIs using Java
  • Contributing to designs
  • Deploying software using automated delivery pipelines

With a good understanding of:

  • What good code looks like (front end or back end)
  • How to operate systems on top of kubernetes infrastructure
  • Identifying areas for code improvement

It would be nice if you are:

  • Familiar with agile ceremonies and principles
  • Comfortable demo’ing to customers, potentially in their own offices
  • Experienced in database development (particularly Postgres and/or ElasticSearch)
  • Experienced in messaging systems (particularly RabbitMQ)
  • Familiar with Test-Driven Development

You’ll need solid fundamentals in software development, systems integration, problem solving, and teamwork.

If successful, you will need to undergo, and pass, a security clearance process - This will be discussed and explained further on the initial call.

Pay and benefits:

Naimuri pays competitively within the industry based on your role's base location rates. The salary for this position is dependent upon your experience. We assess seniority relative to the team at Naimuri during the interviewing process.

A full time working week is 37.5 hours and you have flexibility over when you give that time. We also offer part-time working and compressed hours, which can be discussed during the recruitment process.

Our core hours are 10:00am - 4:00pm and our office opening hours are between 7:30 and 18:00 Monday to Friday.  Most teams have agreed ‘in office’ days to enable collaboration, and you may also be required to attend a customer site (London) or on occasion to travel to our Naimuri office in Greater Manchester.

Benefits include:

  • Flexible/Hybrid working options
  • A company performance related bonus
  • Pension matched 1.5x up to 10.5%
  • AXA group 1 medical cover
  • Personal training budget
  • Holiday buy-back scheme
  • A flexible benefits scheme

Recruitment Process:

We want to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident when interviewing with us. To help you prepare, our recruitment team will discuss the process in more detail with you when you apply.

We are happy to support any accessibility or neurodiversity requirements.
