The Role


As a Quantum Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing and applying cutting-edge quantum technologies to solve complex engineering challenges and support the delivery of innovative capabilities across a range of application domains. Your work will help shape the future of quantum-enabled solutions, contributing to technical excellence and project success.

 

Day-to-day, you'll undertake quantum engineering and systems engineering activities, supporting the delivery of technical projects from concept through to implementation. You'll apply your expertise in quantum sensing, navigation or computing, working within multidisciplinary teams to analyse problems, develop solutions, produce technical documentation, and support engineering decision-making. You will also have opportunities to lead small technical teams and contribute to the development of junior engineers.



Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering quantum engineering activities and technical work packages in support of project objectives
  • Leading small technical teams and coordinating technical outputs
  • Producing high-quality technical documentation, reports, plans and specifications
  • Applying systems engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle
  • Identifying, assessing and escalating technical risks, issues and dependencies
  • Supporting technical decision-making through analysis, modelling and engineering evidence

 

Essential experience of the Quantum Engineer: 

  • Experience in quantum engineering with a focus on quantum sensing, quantum navigation or quantum computing
  • Strong understanding of relevant disciplines including physics, linear algebra, computational science or related engineering fields
  • Experience applying systems engineering processes and methodologies across the engineering lifecycle
  • Ability to develop technical documentation including requirements, specifications, reports and engineering plans
  • Experience of technical analysis, modelling and problem solving within a complex engineering environment
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary stakeholders

 

Essential qualifications for the Quantum Engineer:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Physics, Quantum Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within a relevant technical discipline

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.

The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
