Overall Purpose of the Job:

 

The role is responsible for the delivery of planning and scheduling support across assigned projects and programmes in the C&I business

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Working knowledge of programme management principles and how project planning, scheduling and control activities underpin them
  • Work closely with Project Managers to develop and maintain detailed resource loaded schedules of projects using PPM2016
  • Develop and maintain summary level schedule reports Gantt, PERT, milestone charts, and other program management tools used to support critical path analysis, near-term tasks work authorisations, priority based resource allocations, performance variances and to support cost/schedule integration
  • Identify major milestones, decision points, project life-cycle and other project events
  • Troubleshoot and monitor potential scheduling problems
  • Report on trends, forecasts, project contingency, and schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Update the schedule and compare the actual work performed against the baseline program
  • Develops and maintains project schedules based on input from proposal schedule, Project Manager and Project Engineers
  • Oversees monthly progress updates from the Project Team
  • Reviews schedule status of purchased materials, subcontractors, manufacturing and engineering accomplishments. Identified issues must be communicated to the Project Team timely
  • Provides monthly update reporting for the project including 6 week look ahead, critical path analysis and manpower/resource reporting and forecasting.
  • Monitors schedule progress and identifies variations as early as possible (CPI and SPI).
  • Assists with the development of a recovery plan when significant variations in actual vs planned earned value is identified
  • Responsible for determining and reporting any risk events or issues that arise that can affect Project Cost or Margin
  • Supports Project Controls Analyst with Monthly Project Reporting
  • Supports proposal planning and development
  • Incorporate contractual and programmatic changes into the IMS in order to maintain realistic, current contract schedule baselines

 

Key Capabilities/Knowledge

  • Construction and development of project schedules from first principles in a proprietary scheduling tool such as PPM2016;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply a variety of schedule analysis and optimisation techniques (such as Critical Path analysis, schedule variance)
  • Understand how to work with key stakeholders to monitor and control the project through the various phases of the project lifecycle
  • Understand schedule performance tools and techniques, such as Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Maintain project schedules and keep project resources on track, provide regular project updates to stakeholders, and maintain contact with staff to monitor job progress.
  • Using EVM techniques such as Cost Performance Index (CPI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC)

 

Successful outcomes of this role:

  • Assist in defining and implementing schedule software management processes and procedures
  • Troubleshoot and monitor potential scheduling problems
  • Significant knowledge of the development and delivery of project schedules using proprietary planning tools, specifically PPM2016 or Primavera P6
  • Detailed knowledge of a number of technical areas, such as: project controls, EVM, governance and assurance, risk analysis and management, cost management/control/reporting, benchmarking, data analysis and reporting.
  • Development, introduction and implementation of project schedule analytics and reporting methodologies and techniques (such Critical Path analysis) into an IDT
  • Able to engage, report and challenge at senior stakeholder level

 

Person Specification

Essential Education and Qualifications:

  • Programme or Project Controls Qualification – Practitioner or equivalent
  • Project management qualification; APM membership desirable.
  • Experience of operating as a project scheduler in a variety of complexity environments
  • Experience of managing a project or programme is desirable

  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience in assisting Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) in planning, scheduling and cost estimating tasks advantageous
  • Familiarity with ancillary scheduling programs (COBRA, MPM, Milestones Professional) advantageous
