The Role
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of advanced embedded software for mission-critical navigation and sensing systems. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of software, systems and algorithm engineers, you'll help deliver robust, high-performance software that supports operational defence capability.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work across the engineering lifecycle, from requirements analysis and software design through to implementation, integration and verification. You'll develop software for constrained embedded environments, collaborate closely with FPGA and hardware specialists, and take ownership of features and technical deliveries that contribute directly to customer outcomes

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing embedded C++ software for advanced defence and navigation systems
  • Taking ownership of software features from concept through to delivery and acceptance
  • Collaborating with FPGA, systems and algorithm engineers to integrate software with specialist hardware platforms
  • Applying rigorous software engineering, configuration management and assurance processes
  • Supporting system integration, verification and troubleshooting activities
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of software architectures, tools and engineering practices

 

Essential experience of the Senior Embedded Software Engineer

  • Strong commercial experience developing software in modern C++
  • Experience developing software for embedded or resource-constrained platforms
  • Experience designing and implementing complex software systems throughout the full development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of software design methodologies, including UML or equivalent modelling techniques
  • Experience working within structured engineering environments using configuration and change management processes
  • Proven track record of delivering technical solutions and taking ownership of work packages or product functionality
  • Experience within GNSS, navigation, communications, aerospace, defence, electronic warfare or related high-integrity domains (desirable)

 

Essential qualifications for the Senior Embedded Software Engineer:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline
  • Or equivalent industry experience demonstrating the required level of technical capability

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.

 

The Malvern facility is noted for its work in electronic warfare, surveillance and complex system integration, contributing significantly to the UK’s defence capabilities. Developing technologies for military and civilian applications, including sensors, communications and cyber security.
