The Role

QinetiQ requires science and technology leaders, keen to be part of exciting growth in research and innovation, to enable Defence and Security to mitigate future challenges, whilst identifying and exploiting opportunities. Our quantum team specialises in a wide range of emergent quantum technologies including computing, sensing, Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) and comms. In particular, we are growing our capability in quantum computing, and are looking for a senior scientist or engineer to take a lead role in the growth of this capability.


Day-to-day you will:

  • Lead the technical direction and delivery of quantum computing projects; providing specialism where this fits your experience, and coordinating a wider technical team
  • Liaise with customers at a senior level to enhance our understanding of their requirements, and theirs of QinetiQ’s offerings
  • Produce costed proposals / bids for opportunities; leading the development of the technical solution and proposal
  • Understand capability gaps and opportunities
  • Mentor and train staff in the applications of quantum computing in order to grow the capability


Essential Experience of the Senior Quantum Scientist:

  • 3 or more years of experience working in one or more fields of quantum technology, in particular quantum computing
  • Experience of one or more of QisKit, PyQuil, BraKet
  • Track record of technical leadership and delivery of projects, ideally in a research environment
  • An understanding of wider quantum technology including communications, sensing and PNT
  • Practical experimental experience using quantum systems


Qualifications for the Senior Quantum Scientist:

  • Degree level or higher in a relevant science or technical discipline
