Social Value Manager

Role Purpose


The primary role of the Social Value (SV) manager is to improve business winning and delivery across the UK Intelligence (UKI) business by developing, managing and supporting Programmes and projects deliver SV programmes in line with UKI client requirements, with further support on winning new business and bid writing as part of the role. The role will drive the Social Value strategy fo UKI, working closely with the UK Defence sector and with the corporate functions.


This role will:

  • As a critical success factor, work with the Business Winning Team to develop winning proposals in response to Social Value requirements as raised in client tenders. These proposals should include a well understood, costed and deliverable plan to provide a known risk position and margin impact as part of the overall bid.
  • Advise proposals team on most effective Social Value strategy based on customer insight and requirements.
  • Support the Project Manager through delivery to help insure the agreed delivery plan is met according to the agreed cost profile. Where any changes are required in delivery work with the Delivery team and client to confirm the need for the change along with time and cost impact.
  • Work closely with UKI P3M community to help them shape social value plans and reporting to  address client needs, client priorities and build on QinetiQ’s strategic approach across the key themes of the social value model.
  • Implement QinetiQ’s social value policy and help to embed social outcomes into the procurement of over £500m per year of projects and services across UKI.
  • Engagement with UKI’s and QinetiQ’s campaign management teams to support and deliver SV across UKI and external stakeholders.
  • Work with project teams to complete end of project reviews, capturing case studies, lessons learnt and gathering stakeholder feedback, including beneficiaries to quantify the social value delivered.
  • Engage with the social value community of interste to ensure that feedback drives continues improvement and benefits future tenders across the business. 
  • Support the maintenance of social value policy and procedures, working with internal stakeholders to ensure they align with QinetiQ’s strategy.
  • Assit in developing internal reporting tools and providing monthly MI reports on social value using QinetiQ system in order to holistically track current and anticipated tenders as well as delivery of on contract comitments.
  • Develop, implement and manage internal Social Value (SV) Communication, awareness and training for the UKI business.
  • Develop a Social Value Strategy for each proposal in line with client requirements, drawing on expertise from subject matter experts are required.
  • Produce end of project reviews upon completion of each project and communicate in line with CSR Communication Strategy.


Key Accountabilities

  • Lead on developing  winning responses to SV requirements in UKI Tenders. . Ensure that these response are supported by a deliverable and costed plan.
  • Lead the effective use implementation of all SV requirements across UKI Projects and Programmes. 
  • Lead on the roll out QinetiQ SV requirements across UKI in collaboration with Group Director ESG.
  • Support the Programme directors at reviews and deep dives as necessary to ensure effective management of SV requirements.
  • Operating across UKI and working with the UKI LT in a collaborative manner –
    1. Lead on all Social Value matters to enable assurance in delivery
    2. Provide thought leadership to explore and challenge existing practice and culture to develop alternative innovative interventions and create an environment of Continuous Improvement (CI).
  • Adherence to the QinetiQ governance processes, procedures and working instructions to delvier effective SV outcomes.
  • Roll out of SV training across UKI to improve delivery competency and performance
  • Work in collaboration with the UKI G&A manager to provide assurance to GMD and UKI LT that Projects and Programmes are being delivered in line with UKI client requirements.
  • Liaise Group, Other BU’s and SME’s to develop and improve QinetiQ approach to Social Value management and drive successful outcomes.

  • Knowledge of Social Value in delivery, latest ideas, trends, processes and tools.
  • Able to present both internally and externally at conferences, leadership events and channels.


Experience & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or demonstrable experience
  • Sustainability, communications or a data driven background would be advantageous
  • Social policy and/or sustainable procurement experience
  • Strong management of KPI and data reporting
  • Experience in report production and working to set timescales and deadlines.

    2. Define social value related policies and procedures
    3. Influence external messaging through social value reporting.
  • Technical & People Skills
    1. Excellent track record of stakeholder management
    2. Ability and confidence to work with and influence senior stakeholders
    3. Have a proactive approach to find and identify new opportunities
    4. Comfortable having the autonomy to work under own initiative
    5. A good level of written skills are essential to this role, with a particular emphasis on writing external bids which encapsulate Social Value.
