Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Mechanical Engineer at QinetiQ Target Systems is responsible for the mechanical aspects of new development, design, and engineering documentation for uncrewed vehicle systems and products through research, simulations, modeling, troubleshooting, and analysis to validate and optimize designs while adhering to company policies, procedures, and standards. Assists in-service support departments and senior mechanical engineers with testing, system engineering, and engineering solutions within lifecycle management.

  • Design mechanical assemblies and components for base platforms & payloads per the requirements, health & safety regulations, and environmental considerations.
  • Collaborate across technical disciplines to ensure system and operational requirements are met, and tasks are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support senior engineering in mechanical system requirements and specifications.
  • Development of documentation for design methodologies.
  • Technical lead of small to medium design projects.
  • Present technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support senior engineering with cost estimates for new products and services.
  • Review and/or approval of engineering documents.
  • Provide mentoring to junior staff.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by line manager.

 

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

 

  • Membership in APEGA (or eligibility).
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Experience with custom design and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Computer proficiency (Document Management Software, MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook).

 

Additional desirable assets would include:

  • Experience with small to large-scale vehicle systems.
  • Experience with autonomous or uncrewed vehicles.
  • Experience with control law.
  • Design for marine environments.
  • 3D modeling software, FEA, and CFD.
  • Software: Autodesk Inventor, STAR-CCM+, Nastran, MATLAB.
  • Change management.
  • Project management.
  • Technical writing.

Security Requirements:

 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada.
