Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Production Technologist is responsible for the new manufacture, repair and overhaul, acceptance testing and operation of assemblies and sub-assemblies that make up the unmanned vehicles and support equipment that QinetiQ Target Systems designs, manufactures, repairs and operates globally. The Production Technologist is responsible for operating machinery, assembling products, and ensuring the quality of the final output. Attention to detail, technical skills, and commitment to safety are crucial to maintaining our high standards of production.
- Provide effective leadership for assembly of products ensuring accuracy and efficiency according to established guidelines, build instructions and drawings.
- Assemble products accurately and efficiently according to established guidelines, build instructions and drawings
- Test final systems and sub-assemblies.
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Monitor the production process and conduct regular quality checks.
- Mentor and collaborate with team members to achieve production targets.
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery and report any defects or issues.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
- Responsible for training new Production Operatives and assessing competence.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist Engineering with the creation of acceptance test documentation, engineering memorandums and review of draft drawings and documentation.

- To meet changing business needs, it may be necessary to make some amendments to the role purpose and accountabilities, and to take on additional responsibilities.
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
- 2-year technician programs, 2-year technologist diploma programs, military programs, journeyman programs, degree programs or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with Mechanical/electrical subsystems
- 5+ years of experience manufacturing mechanical or electrical assemblies.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical subsystems.
- Working Conditions: This position may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate production schedules. The role may involve exposure to a manufacturing environment and require standing for extended periods.
Additional desirable assets would include:
- Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Formal Team leading or Supervisory experience and qualifications
- Experience with ERP software systems like SAP or Deltek Costpoint
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Skill Requirements:
- Solid troubleshooting abilities and techniques.
- Experience leading a team.
- Strong Mechanical aptitude is required to conduct integration and address identified issues.
- Quality assurance skills to ensure attention to detail during receipt, initial inspection and ongoing quality assurance through testing procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communications
- Strong work ethic and ability to work under high stress and tight schedules.
- Strong critical thinking ability.
- Operating a forklift.
- Operating an overhead crane.
Security Requirements:
- Able to obtain a Canadian Class 2 Security clearance.
- Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check
Safety Requirements:
- As this position requires interaction with all departments, including those on the manufacturing floor, this position is considered safety sensitive.
- Environment can be noisy at times.
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
- Willing to participate in safety observation/inspections to identify positive and negative safety behaviors & conditions.
- Support the development of safe work policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Act as an ambassador to promote the organizations positive safety culture.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities within tight time frames.
- Sitting, standing & walking for extended periods of time may be required.
- Working on a computer requiring manual dexterity to operate computer and peripherals, including extended screen time.
- Able and willing to participate in and conduct presentations.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE when on the shop floor or yards.
- Repetitive work requiring lifting capabilities of up over 50lbs.
