QinetiQ Canada is looking to recruit an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Senior Maintenance Manager (SMM). The UAS SMM will lead the delivery of maintenance support including all aspects of the Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO) and the UAS Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) department.  A successful SMM shall obtain the Technical Approval Authority (TAA) assignment of authority for the SMM position and is responsible to the Accountable Manager for all maintenance activity within the QinetiQ Canada UAS Group. The SMM will ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with approved UAS maintenance programmes and released in accordance with maintenance process manual (MPM). The UAS SMM is responsible for oversight of all UAS base and line maintenance activity. The UAS SMM may work in a variety of different environments over extended periods of time as part of a close team of operators, maintainers and military personnel.

 

The role involves:

  • Oversee all aspects of QinetiQ Canada’s UAS Maintenance Organization
  • The SMM will ensure all maintenance activities under Flight Certificates are accomplished in accordance with the policies contained in this Maintenance Policies and Maintenance Control Manuals (MPM and MCM), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEMs) provided maintenance schedules and the relevant DND Aviation Regulations
  • Maintain and lead a culture of safety
  • Accountable for safe and effective operations
  • Accountable for regulation compliance
  • Planning of all maintenance activity
  • Ensure accurate and regular electronic/paper data base management of maintenance logs
  • Sign off on all systems, within QTSC and within each deployed team
  • Ensuring development of appropriate competence and currency
  • Internal and external Governance compliance
  • Responsible for Functional and Performance Management of the maintenance team
  • Extensive Technical Leadership experience in an Aerospace organisation including staff management and development
  • Provide advice regarding commercial, financial and legislative aspects associated with the AMO


Required skills:

  •  A relevant engineering degree with aircraft managerial experience
  • In-depth understanding of relevant Canadian civil and military regulations
  • Proven track record of leading maintenance organisations/teams
  • Customer and Supplier management experience in the Aerospace domain
  • A thorough knowledge of aviation Maintenance Management activities
  • Experienced in change management, possessing a clear and demonstrable understanding of the cultural diversity of the marketplace, customer goals and aspirations
  • Direct experience of maintaining fleets of aircraft
  • An in-depth understanding of the Maintenance Approved Organisation Scheme and Design Approved Organisation Scheme regulatory frameworks
  • Experience of working in Military and Civil environments
  • Proven expertise in establishing facility maintenance and quality processes
  • A thorough knowledge of aviation maintenance systems
  • Military background is an asset
  • First Aid Level C (will train)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting, analytical skills and detail oriented
  • Excellent demonstrable leadership experience

 

Reporting Relationships:

  • The role is functionally accountable to the Director UAS Programs
  • The successful candidate is responsible for working across and within a matrix organisation to ensure appropriate deployment of Aircraft Maintenance Group capability (Suitably Qualified Experienced Personnel) to projects, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality whilst always ensuring safe operations
  • The SMM will manage sub-delegations as appropriate within their area of responsibility

 

Security Requirements:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Able to obtain a Canadian Level 2 Security clearance
  • Must have a clean background history and obtain criminal record check

 

Safety Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity needed to operate hand tools if required
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Lift a maximum of 15 kg
  • Ability to multi-task in a computer-operated environment
  • Using a computer and associated peripherals
  • Looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Being exposed to a variety of environmental conditions (heat, wind, rain, etc.)
  • Handling sensitive equipment (lasers, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

 

This position is safety sensitive due work requirements of being on the factory floor near equipment, field deployment and testing requirements.
